Question

Help answer this question below.

Couldn't it be made possible for the pilot to gas all passengers to sleep to prevent a hi-jacking or plane takeover? Even at the possible loss of a baby, or young child on board, wouldn't this be better than arming pilots with guns?

It would be ineffective. If airliners started using gas, then terrorists would simply bring gas masks with them. Even if border security stopped allowing gas masks on airplanes to counter this, think about it this way. If they can sneak weapons onto a plane, a gas mask is no problem.

I dont think killing small children and babies is a better idea than allowing pilots to be armed. Unless they are crying when I am trying to sleep or kicking the back of my seat of course.

At 35,000 feet above the earth, gassing humans would be out of the question. some of the gas would eventually reach the pilot and down you go. i am not 100% content with pilots being armed, at this or any altitude. they may have the schooling, but they do not have the experience.

U.S. Marshals secretly ride different airplanes on different airlines. you will never know if one is aboard, until an incident occurs. they are armed with special weapons and have the training and experience.

    I say no to gas.

In itself, it would be a accident waiting to happen at 35,000 feet above the earth.

Gassing passengers? What are you thinking about? That's too much, it's unpractical, could kill lots of people, not only babies or young childs, but old people, people with heart problem, and pilots would release the gas for any reason.

There are surely much better solutions.

Unconsciousness is very close to death -- that's why anesthesiologists get paid lots of money as they closely monitor the patient.

You mean, one baby per year in the whole country? Or one baby per month per plane?

Count how many people are killed per year in airplane hijackings and multiply it out.

Dunno about the pilots but, on a night flight back from an agreeable layover, the cabin crew might ask for the gas system to be used to free them from passenger requests ;)
