I want to know the answer to this question 2.... I would want to enjoy the natural wonders - mountains, natural flora and fauna, rivers, lakes and bays....Oh ! and learn about the native Maori culture. Probably want to hike, bike, sail, snorkel, whatever the landscape and weather would permit

Lots of New Zealanders ??

OK, I might as well answer this properly, seeing as I'm a kiwi. A travel plan, very rough. You'll probably arrive in Auckland, head to Rotorua, then to the capital Wellington [my home]. Then, crossing the Cook Straight by ferry, you head further south until you reach Christchurch, the garden city. After that you can even head to Dunedin.

It depends on what you like. I'd personally go to the South Island. I would visit Christ Church, and then head to Queenstown. From there I would go on one or two treks - Milford Trek, Routeborne, Kepler, etc. The landscape is right out of Lord of the Rings.

I don't what is special about New Zealand. I would probably have a guide with me to spend the week usefully, see places there, learn things about the country, get along along with the Kiwis and find some good friends there:)

both Islands are so different, the north island is renouned for its magnificent beaches, the south island for lakes and , mountains. The coromandel is beautiful, with some of the top beaches in the world, cathederal cove, New Chums Bay, great deep sea fishing from Whitiangi, awesome!! Bay OF islands is also very good for fishing, and beaches, then Auckland is a neat city, with plenty of city scenes etc, Rotorua where there are natural thermal activity, head further south, to the main skiing field of Mt Ruapehau, hope it doesnt erupt on you as it is a live volcanoe!!, then head to the south Island, take in the Marlborough sounds, do some vineyard tours, head doen further do some mountian trips, lakes, walks...........

I would hide naked except my underwear in the cracks and caves in the mountains screaming..."My precious! I loveseses you precious"

One week is merely enough to whett the appetite. You'll HAVE to come back for longer! South Island for scenery - lower west coast Queenstown, Te Anau, Milford Sound, Lake Manapouri, Arrowtown, Wanaka and upto Westport - have to stop there 'cos you've already run out of time!

The first thing I would do is immediately figure out how to spend more than a week there. My son has lived there three years from the U.S. The first year I visited him for 2 1/2 weeks and I knew that was not long enough. There is so much to see in that beautiful country and the two islands are so difference, it's impossible to say. I would suggest not trying to do too much in that short time. Someone else could give you a better answer. I have been three times in three years and have seen a lot of both islands. The only area I haven't seen yet is north of Auckland, which is an area I want to see next trip.
