Actually, I felt very sad about it. He was a very sadistic, unjust and terrible tyrant even with his own people, but my understanding is that in that part of the world, a very tribal mentality still rules the day. Given the context in which this man was born, raised, lived, breathed and ruled, and the primitive and archaic standards of human interaction that still prevail there, the modern western ideas of human decency must have seemed strange, foreign and irrelevant both by the tribal leaders in that part of the world and by the majority of the peasants they ruled. Had Saddam been less of a tyrant, he might have been perceived as weak by his own people and might not have been able to stay in power successfully.

Neutral.

I think the whole situation was handled very badly..
-
I thought oh how the mighty have fallen and was surprised that he was captured alive.
-
He shouldn't have been. As much of an asshole as he was, nobody has the right to walk into a country, capture their leader and put him in a show trial, then execute him because he isn't doing what you think is right.
-
Sad and angry. I mean, really I know he wasn't the nicest guy on the planet, but what gave the US the right to invade a country and overthrow the government, killing tens of thousands of innocent citizens, just because they don't think what the leader is doing is right? What if the shoe was on the other foot? Someone didn't like what the American president was doing, so they invade, kill thousands of Americans and then hang the president. I think that he was unjustly overthrown. Yes, he was a b***ard, but that was no reason to invade and kill him.

I think he should have been imprisoned rather than hanged. I think he should have been made to have a prolonged suffering as many of his subjects did.
-
It was sureal to me...I was sort of shocked.....especially after seeing the look on his face before the execution.....I would have thought him to take his own life rather than be put to death.
-
he should have been captured and hanged during the first gulf war. he was a brutal dictator, im glad he is dead, we are much safer with him in the ground. we no longer wonder if iraq is building weapons of mass destructuion. if we hadnt taken him out we still would be playing saddamm's games of inspection holdups and wondering if he was develoing a bomb.
-
They got the wrong guy. He got about 4 "doubles" and the guy hanged was one of them. He still alive & kicking. :D My 2 cents.
-
Good. Very good.

I just want to thank you for using the proper form 'hanged' instead of 'hung.' I was disgusted and sad at the same time - he was a tyrant for sure, but his trial was a travesty and did not serve to advance the cause of justice. How about capturing and hanging Kim Jung Il?
