  • I have tried to resist argument in the heat of it and communicate with a s/o or best friend in order to resolve the conflict quickly, rather than perpetuating it. Why keep it going when you can talk it out? When you choose to really use your words and mean them, it's amazing how much can be accomplished.
  • I most often seek truth out of principle, but I think that seeking common ground is more beneficial more often. Even though I cannot get there with most people, I can get there (to the seeking of common ground, I mean) with my husband, most of my family and my own children, which I find a blessing. When I worked in mental health years ago, with chronically mentally ill adults, finding common ground was my first instinct and I cannot even exaggerate how beneficial it was in that job. I wish it were my first instinct in all situations to be quite honest.
  • It's more about the absence of gunfire, switchblades, flying objects, explosives. If everyone is able to communicate verbally, half the battle is won. On the other hand, sometimes it shouldn't be won, i.e. salesman who talk you into buying ridiculous stuff.
