  • Both of those breeds are working dogs and are happier with "job" to do. My dogs love going to obedience classes as puppies, they think its a great game where they can see their friends. Very worthwhile, especially for a 7 month old. (And Borders are generally regarded to be the most intelligent. Ive had 2, and many Labs too)
  • The border collie part of the dog is probably bored. I have a border Collie myself and she needs to have a job and needs to learn something new every day. Plenty of exercise is also required. She is the smartest dog I have ever known. I have taught her so many tricks that I have lost count. I will always go back to an old trick just to keep her on her toes. She LOVES being challenged mentally. She would rather work for a treat than have me just give her one. Having a border collie that is bored can be destructive and seemingly not a good listener. Hope that helps.
  • Gosh I thought a lab was work. You must really love a dog this wild because my mom will never let me have one. Our lab mix is already a handful but is mix with chow so its not as wild. Let the dog do its job. Let the dog hunt waterflow or go to a border collie club, they let your dog herd ducks(south) and sheep some times. And if your dog doesnt know how to herd then the club will teach it
  • Being what he is. You are up against two things - the age, all dogs are energy at that age. Number two - the breed combo; labs can be puppies for about 12 years and border collie are smart as a whip and always looking to be busy. I have no doubt this will be a great dog with lots of attention and exercise. You need to find the trigger - food, treats are one and a favorite toy or game is another amoung several. Be firm, consistent, and patient. Exercise and social interaction is an absolute. Start with very basic, simple commands - maybe two or three before you do others. Stay, sit,and three that every dog should know. Good luck. +5
