  • december 25th i think ill call my cousins in germany tomarro
  • Yes its Dec. 25th. All Roman Catholics and Protestants celebrate Christmas on Dec. 25th. I think the Orthodox church has a different date though. Of course you realise that Western Europe including Germany is almost all either Roman Catholic or Protestant. Germany probably has a heavy Lutheran population and as a Lutheran I can tell you we celebrate Christmas on Dec. 25.
  • Well, I was there for 3 years and it was the 25th.
  • Christmas is technically on the 25th of December like everywhere else but the main celebration of Christmas, including caroling, lighting up the Christmas tree for the first time, the giving and opening of presents, and for many families, a visit to church either before or after the family celebration, happens on Christmas eve (rather than on the following Morning). This tradition is so strong, that the Word "Weihnachten" (Christmas), unless noted otherwise, refers to December 24th more than to December 25th.
  • Yep, actually the idea for the "christmas tree" came from Germany.
  • Today, the 24th is beginning of Christmas here in Germany, the presents are exchanged this evening, the mass "Christmette" is in the night. 25th and 26th are Christmas holidays. If 24th is on a weekday, shops close at around noon/early afternoon.
  • My husband is German and he said that the info from H-mood is correct. Christmas is celebrated on the eve of the 24th, but the 25th and 26th are considered holidays.
