  • Definitely.
  • Not childish - repressed, particularly when it comes to women not being allowed to sunbathe topless.
  • Yes. Ask any european
  • We still have a little bit of that Puritan ethos lurking around but I think it's going away very fast lately.
  • Well. Yes. Seems like it to me.
  • Very much so. On the one hand Americans are prudish on the other they are sexually obsessed.
  • Yes. I think many Americans are hysterically prudish and badly repressed when it comes to nudity, sexuality and the inability to see a nude body in a non-sexual way. It seems like many Americans have an inherent need to sexualize even the most innocent of acts that involve partial or full nudity, such as breastfeeding or sunbathing. Many forums have disclaimers warning against the use of partial or full nudity solely because of American legislation. (See image below, taken from the online dating website OkCupid.com) It seems outdated and unnecessary to be so prudish about sexuality and nudity in this day and age.

  • I don't think so.
  • generally speaking yes...
  • I don't think everyone is childish about it. Personally I am uncomfortable about it, but that is why there are designated spots for it, like nude beaches. I am alright with that setup because I can always avoid those places and people who are comfortable with that can still have that freedom and choice in their lives.
  • Well, 'silly' is the word that comes to my mind. Children many times are more mature than a lot of so-called adults regarding the human body. Actually, the US attitude concerning the human body is a little embarrassing.
