  • Different disks (CDs, DVDs, Games) come in different "formats". This is the language that the device uses to "read" to disk. Mucis CDs use a .wav format. PS2 discs use a different one, though I cannot think of it off the top of my head. The disc it is asking for is not one that will format (erase, etc...) the machine. You are likely getting this error because your PS2 is having difficulty reading the one you have in there, if there is one present at all. Try cleaning the disc with the proper cleaning suplies recommended by SCEA. You may need the disc repaired too. I like to gently wipe the disc (with non-fiberous material) and continue trying it. Eventually, it may work.
  • If you are recieving this error, it is because one of two things is happening, your hard drive is errorneus and needs to be formated. Or, the more likely, your PS2 thinks you are inputting a disk that is not in a format the PS2 recognizes. A PS2 disk is in *.ELF format, and a PS1, I believe is *.ISO. A PS2 can read both, and DVD's and music CD's, though it has trouble playing all tracks on a burned CD, and can not at all recognize an MP3 disk, without a mod-chip.
  • What games are you trying to play? Copied or imported? I think that screen might show up if you're playing a copied/imported game and your PS2 doesn't have a mod-chip.
