  • No. Why would someone want to do that?
  • Sure, but I think it would prevent some people contributing to the site. If some people feel more comfortable providing facts and insight under an anonymous name, I see no problem.
  • While it provides a cloak of privacy, it also provides the TROLLS a clever way to operate multiple accounts and do their hit and run thing. Perhaps, Anonymous people should not be allowed to comment or down rate...??? They would still have the ability to ask or answer questions. If they want to play the points game, they should come out of the shadows.
  • I don't think anonymous accounts should be banned.
  • I think an anonymous user should only be able to ask and answer questions. No commenting no rating no masturbating.
  • It seems that I didn't effectively convey WHY I felt anonymous accounts should be restricted and I'm not sure anybody wants to collate the dialog in the comments, so I will elaborate here. It's not because of the potential for abuse exactly; a person could just create a 'disposable' ID and wreak havoc. However, these IDs would start with a low level anyways so the damage would be limited. Abuse will always happen. It's more of a house-keeping thing. As it stands, we enjoy some anonymity anyways because this is the Internet. And sometimes a person will want to ask or answer something without it being traced to them. I feel that these should be done with a 'disposable' ID instead of just being from Anonymous. Now let's say Anonymous asks a sensitive and embarrassing question and Anonymous and Anonymous answer but don't want to admit to it. Then Anonymous and Anonymous comment on Anonymous' answer. While Anonymous' comment is constructive, Anonymous' comment is inflammatory. Now, telling Anonymous from Anonymous when it comes flagging time takes a little research; it'd be a shame to blame Anonymous for something Anonymous did. And maybe Anonymous also is rude and crude... If they had serial numbers or were required to use a 'fake ID' we could get the best of both worlds. Contributors cold easily protect their anonymity and preserve their reputations while making it as easy to flag abusive people or spot helpful ones as it is with more permanent IDs.
