I have always been a pragmatist. Ideals are often overrated. ;-)

Idealism and pragmatism aren't opposites. In fact, pragmatism is just the act of living one's ideals. Ideals are useless unless you practice them (hence, pragmatism). I think I am both an idealist and a pragmatist. I began practicing my ideals (values) when I realized that just thinking them was no good to me or anyone else - probably in my early 20s. But I don't cherish my ideals any the less because of practicing them.
