Why do people in the art world follow idiotic trends like sheep, such as claiming that a photo of a urinal is a masterpiece?

Cause a lot of the people who do that have no actual artistic talent and therefore have to be told what is art.

Oh, those are the hoitty toitty types who feel superior by looking at a pix of a dirty urinal and claiming it's a masterpiece. Normal people don't do that cause they have more important things to do like clean the dirty urinal in the picture

Following "Idiotic" trends, or any "trend" is simply cashing in on a commercial 'winner'. I wonder at your question: Are you asking why someone would consider a photo of a urinal a masterpiece? Or are you wondering why an artist would 'create' such an image? Personally, too many artists think of themselves as Legends in their Own Minds. But many people who are creative understand the significance of a piece when they complete it. I have a piece or 2 that I consider my masterwork; that is not to say it is fabulous. It simply means that by my own standards, the piece is a success. Many artists go for shock value, like comedians do with "blue' language. They seek to get attention, and then seek for the reaction. This does not make the art good or bad, it just explains what the artist is trying to attempt.
