For filming they get aroused in a purely physical sense - the men have 'fluffers' (women who get them hard through masturbation or oral sex), and the women use gels and lubricants to keep them moist. There is really no emotion used during filming, and this tends to come across in the lack of eye contact, etc. I suppose that outside their work they have just as much emotion in a relationship, but am not sure if this is the case. I remember a prostitute being interviewed and asked what the difference was between a client and her boyfriend. "The clients don't get to kiss me - that's too personal" was her reply. Perhaps porn stars have a similar rule that there are some things they keep only for their partner.
