  • No. It really doesn't for the sound. However, they may be curved or made to fit your head better if you use the left in the left ear, etc.
  • If you're talking stero sound, then the issue is that the recording has been mixed into a left channel and a right channel for optimum playback. For some recordings (like standard pop) it wouldn't matter much. But some recordings have been created to match the physical locations of musicians (such as in a classical concert hall). Of course, if you weren't an avid classical concert attendee, you might not notice that the strings are coming from the "wrong" side. On the other hand, if you're watching a video it might be disconcerting to have a voice coming from an unseen person on your left, only to have that person appear from a room on your right.
