Why do teenagers like to drink to excess? I've never understood why my peers do this.

With the oncoming of the teenage years many feel alot of inward struggle to find themselves. Alchol is either an escape from this search or a cop out of not finding yourself by following the crowd.

Whenever you're not allowed to do something, you want to do it and usually end up abusing it. Once people turn 21, they don't care so much anymore because they've experienced it and realized it's not that awesome. I think also time has evolved youth's to believe that it's the only type of entertainment. Late teens would consider non-alcoholic means of fun to be lame. It's disappointing, but they can't think of anything else to do. And even when they were to participate in something non-alcoholic they usually think, "man this would be sooo much better drunk"

They are too immature to understand the path of self-destruction this leads to. Trust me I'm 24 and a lot of people my age still do this. Reasons I don't drink to excess (In order of importance) 1. The Lord my God commanded me not to 2. I want to be a good role-model for my students 3. I don't like being in a state where I am not capable of making a well reasoned decision 4. Saftey

In seems to lubricate often awkward social situations which are especially bountiful at this age.

because it lets u do things u want to do but wouldnt have done normally and have an excuse if its something that people don't agree with. this can backfire though.. u can also do things u really dont want to do and then it just sucks the next morning.

Peer Pressure. They revel in the attention. They like to rebel. They think it enhances their coolness factor. They are naturally competitive. They want the reputation of being "wild and crazy" guys. ...............................................Or perhaps it helps them deal with their inferiority complex......................................................................

Partly because they are getting away with something; it's generally illegal for teens to drink for at least 2 more years. Partly because consuming mass quantities of alcohol without getting sick or dying allegedly proves how tough you are. Partly because a little alcohol makes you feel a little good so a lot of alcohol will make you feel positively orgasmic. (At least that's the logic after the first 5 or 9 drinks.) Partly because alcohol makes you smarter and sexier than you are when you're sober. (At least that's the logic after the first 5 or 9 drinks.) Partly because all of the bad things that alcohol can do will NEVER happen to you. You'll never die on a DUI or from alcohol poisoning. Drunk girls NEVER get raped. You're young and invincible!

The real reason they do it is because their peers do it. The majority of people have an overwhelming need to be like everybody else, and to feel accepted. It is the minority that have minds of their own like yourself who can do whatever they want to without giving in to everyone else.

It makes them think they're mature, but proves just the opposite.

The only thing I can think of is that they think they can get higher and think they are.
