I've just embarked on research into the 15th & 16th century warrior culture of ancient China. Anybody know of some good books to reference?

Absolutely, I recommend "The 33 Strategies of War" by Robert Greene, the book referances the samurai warriors and their tactics, with indepth research and tactical advice referanced from Sun tsu who author'd "The Art of War" 4th century BC.
