  • Wow, this is a loaded question. Certainly the phenomena that is described as demonic possession exists, and has been documented throughout history. The real question is whether or not a person is possessed by an evil spiritual entity. I do not entirely dismiss the possibility. As a Wiccan, I certainly believe in spiritual entities. I am not so naive to believe that they are all benevolent. I do NOT think, though, that one should believe that someone is possessed without significant evidence and a thorough psychological and physical evaluation. Schizophrenia, dementia, epilepsy, multiple personality disorder, and other conditions certainly exist and are far more likely culprits.
  • Ask me how hard I'm working not to make an in-law joke right now.
  • Ah I hate these opinion questions because some extremist is going to come and downrate my answer. For the good of answerbag, I will respond xP To put it frankly, no. Humans cannot be possessed by anything other then themselves. No if you are refering to internal demons then yes. This is quite frequent. Everyone has days when they are not acting like themselves and this is due to some internal struggle (personify it as a demon if you'd like). However no outside entity could come and corrupt your mind into doing its bidding. People who claim this are copping out of a situation or actualy mentaly insane. Either way take pitty.
  • Yes, its very real and very scary. If you become a satanist your at a higher risk. My dad can tell you what a demon looks like, he saw one in his bed room, he also experience someone calling his name when he lived alone. They usually appear as these black shadows, they can take the form of anyone or thing they want. They posses non christians, and sometimes appear on the outside like they have Multiple personalities, but not all people with that problem are possessed. All of those so called Dead human spirits are demons, they like to mess with people. Or you could call it preoccupy them so they don't find the truth. So they don't turn to Jesus Christ. Thats really what demons are doing on this planet. A few ways to know if a demon is near you is that the room gets cold enough that your see your breath, you smell a strong sulfur (The smell of rotten eggs), you feel like something is watching you, and you sometimes hear your name being called by nothing when no one is around you. You become unbelievable scare. I have heard os any demon stories, its almost scary.
  • Possession by demons is definately REAL .....
  • No, and demon posseSSion is not a real phenomEnon either :) . Back then, it was the only way they could explain certain conditions like epilepsy. Today we know better, so nobody has an excuse to believe such things any more.
  • Yes, I believe so, without a doubt. I have a link to a video of a man who is having Deliverance done at a church to get rid of demons. Here it is below-I believe this is real. http://www.ministeringdeliverance.com/larsonvideo.php
  • Dude, haven't you seen The Exorcist?
  • Yes it is. I have seen an exorcism performed live. The BIBLE speaks of the last days and how man will wax worst and worst. These days are now here.....I see people doing worst and worst things. The demons have got to possess a body. There are things people do that open the door for those demons to do so. There have been instances where people have done things and didn't even know why or that they did it. There are instances where people have heard voices tell them to do things unimaginable. There has been documents cases of people being possessed.
  • Yes, I think so, but less often than previously thought. Most cases are simply mental illness.
  • No, it's superstition. So called demonic possession is most often conditions like epilepsy or mental illness. Unfortunately, several people die every year because those who are labelled as being possessed are not given the vital psychiatric treatment that they need.
  • Yes, there was a young girl. (true story) . If I did not know the people I would not believe it. A child was attending my church and they had a school there. Every time this child was to go to chapel and had worship. A voice inside told her to stay away from the pastors. She was lil and thought nothing of it. One day a teacher of God's word felt so led to visit our childrens school. When chapel time came the voice in the child got louder! The music began and the lil girl was very uncomfortable especially when this lady came to pray over her. She started to manifest a demon in her and was so uncomfortable. The women prayed for 7 hours and did not leave her side. After 7 hours she felt free and raised her hands up to give her life to Jesus. There was a legion of demons in her. The history of this girl was that when she was a baby she was offered up to satan as a child. Wow, I said that happens. Well yes, she came to the church I guess after someone took her in and brought her to this church. She had no idea and just heard this voice all the time. Saying stay away from the pastors. Well this was a real story and I have seen such things as I know God kicks the devils real end and has already won. But the girl is free and living peacefully now. Thanks God. Hope this story blest you. Chow, D.
  • There is an observable phenomenon which has been given this name. Science does not give it this name and denies that it should be caused by a demon, however. "Demonic possession is often the term used to describe the control over a human form by Satan himself or one of his assigned advocates. Descriptions of demonic possessions often include: erased memories or personalities, convulsions, “fits” and fainting as if one were dying. Unlike in channelling or other forms of possession, the subject has no control over the possessing entity and so it will persist until forced to leave the victim, usually through a form of exorcism. Many cultures and religions contain some concept of demonic possession, but the details vary considerably. The Roma people believe that demons can also possess animals, plants, deceased persons or inanimate objects. The oldest references to demonic possession are from the Sumerians, who believed that all diseases of the body and mind were caused by "sickness demons" called gidim or gid-dim. The priests who practiced exorcisms in these nations were called ashipu (sorcerer) as opposed to an asu (physician) who applied bandages and salves. Many cuneiform tablets contain prayers to certain gods asking for protection from demons, while others ask the gods to expel the demons that have invaded their bodies. Most illustrations portray these spirits as small, gruesome characters with inhuman distinctiveness. Often referenced as a witch’s “familiars” demons and other evil-spirits employed by witches are also displayed as society’s cast-offs or those beings incapable of caring for themselves thus seeking refuge with a witch. Witches would provide shelter and nourishment via the “witch’s teat” in exchange for the valuable services of the familiars in addition to spells, potions and other attempts by a witch to cause evil or “maleficium” over another. Shamanic cultures also believe in demon possession and shamans perform exorcisms too; in these cultures often diseases are attributed to the presence of a vengeful spirit or (loosely termed) demon in the body of the patient. These spirits are more often the spectres of animals or people wronged by the bearer, the exorcism rites usually being comprised of respectful offerings or sacrificial offerings." "Demonic possession is not a valid psychiatric or medical diagnosis recognized by either the DSM-IV or the ICD-10. This is because one of the tenets of science is that there must be natural causes for natural phenomena and thus does not look outside of the physical or natural realm. Those who profess a belief in demonic possession have sometimes ascribed the symptoms associated with mental illnesses such as hysteria, mania, psychosis, or dissociative identity disorder to possession. In cases of dissociative identity disorder in which the alter personality is questioned as to its identity, 29% are reported to identify themselves as demons. However doctors see this as a mental disease called demonomania or demonopathy, a monomania in which the patient believes that he or she is possessed by one or more demons. Considering the background of Christianity that a large portion of the Western world has matured within, deeply ingrained concepts of the 'other' being a Christian demon is not particularly surprising. From another point of view, those who accuse others of being demon-possessed have to be mentioned too. In cases like those of the witches of Salem, Massachusetts, or the nuns who accused father Urbain Grandier, a collective hysteria is believed to take place. In particular cases (sometimes a small number of persons, e.g., some members of a family or a small group of friends, but generally one person) the accusation of demon possession is caused because of the diseases above-mentioned or the phenomenon of collective hysteria. Another type of case is fraudulent claims of possession. Medicine has increasingly shown to be capable of explaining some aspects of the "symptoms" shown by those persons allegedly possessed; it is known that "supernatural strength" is common in some cases of insanity (mania or energumens). This, however, is attributable to adrenaline surges, similar to that of the urban story of 'lifting a truck off a baby' or berzerkers of ancient times."
