  • they were both productive, but cotton was more profitable due to slave labor. In fact, marijauana was partially outlawed to make the southern (slave) states happy, to try to keep them from splitting off and forming their own country....I guess it didn't work.

  • Everyone here is wrong hemp was way more productive and way more efficient than cotton ever was. Thats part of the reason it was outlawed those who produced cotton lobbied to make it illegal for fear of losing profits and a dying trade. do your research hemp is softer, warmer and more water-resistant than cotton, and has three times as much tensile strength. Hemp withstands heat, mildew, insects, and is not damaged by light. Hemp is more abrasion resistant than any other natural fabric, more absorbent than cotton, and as breathable as linen. hemp can also made into an abundance of other things like paper or food. weed can save our economy
