  • genetic testing is mostly done on blood but can be done on other specimens like amniotic fluid or tissue. Blood work is less invasive. But if doctors are looking for a type of genetic mutaion in a tumor they might have to test the tissue. Why they do it is usually dependent on the situation. Are they trying to see if a person carries a disease? Are they trying to see what caused a disease. or even if a person will react well to a certain drug. consent usually has to be granted before testing is done. and in some cases counseling must be done also.
