At 55, my natural hair color is ashy dark brown. It was light auburn until my thirties. Why did I lose my red color?

I do not know why, but my red hairs are the first ones turning white. My hair was always a mix of blonde, light brown and these thick shiney wirey red ones. The red ones are the only ones turning white at the moment. They look like shiny silver metal wires. Weird.
