Currently, the record is 8 straight wins, recently set by the Boston Red Sox. In 2004, they swept the Anaheim Angels in the ALCS. Then, they lost three straight to the Yankees, but won the next four to win the ALCS, and then proceeded to sweep the Cardinals in the World Series.

Actually the record is held by the Yankees. They won the last 3 games of the 1998 ALDS against the Cleavelenad Indians and then swept the Padres in the 1998 World Series (4 games). They swept the Texas Rangers in the 1999 ALDS (3 games) and then won the first 2 games against the Boston Red Sox in the 1999 ALCS. (A series in which they went on to win 4-1). That's a total of 12 games.
