The Nazis were lead by Adolf Hitler, phoebe. And while you know that, this fact is essential when you realize that Adolf was the worst kind of racist, in that he believed only blonde haired blue eyed people should exist. He called this race the Aryan race, and since Gypsies, Jews and others were not blonde and blue eyed, they were marked with the Nazi death knell, the Mark of Cain. It must be known that he was a hypocrite, for he hated Jews, and yet, if my memory serves me correctly, he had some Jewish blood in him, and what is more, he was neither blonde nor did he have blue eyes.

Hitler was not a blonde haired, blue eyed person yet he was promoting some "master race". What a bunch of horse manure. Please read your history-do research-don't let those who claim the Holocaust is a myth keep on trying to trivialize one of the worst times in human history. Hitler preached that the Aryan nation was superior in every way--six million were slaughtered in the Nazi death camps; Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals--anyone he considered "undesirabe" and "polluting the purity of the Aryan race". We can never forget--"if we do not learn from History; we are doomed to repeat it".

Any absolute system of government usually does some things (and usually many things) fairly poorly. For example, Germany did well industrially under Hitler throughout the middle 1930s, but this was due to Hitler ignoring the restrictions placed on Germany after WW1 - much of the industry created in Germany by Hitler was based on military expansion. So a country does well by breaking international law. Germany would have done far less well had it obeyed the restrictions placed on it. Most absolutist government systems realise - sooner or later - that they fail in important areas. If you fail it's always nice to have a scapegoat you can point at and say 'It's all their fault'. Thankfully in most first world countries this (if it's attempted) no longer attracts much attention except ridicule. However, in the 1930s film and radio was making it's first big impact on the populations of industrialised countries and almost all countries used propaganda ruthlessly. Germany was probably the first world expert at this, and the Nazis found it easy to persuade their populations to think 'their way'. There were exceptions of course, but we can see the hangover of this far-reaching propaganda in the people who even today deny the holocaust. Divide and conquer is still a viable method of control of populations. It was even more so 70 years ago in Germany. Hitler used a simple 'them and us' philosophy that was easily understood by the population and widely accepted. It's a tried and tested method and has been used throughout history, with various groups at various times and in various places being made the scapegoat. The Romans used the Carthaginians, the Egyptians, the Jews, and the Christians. European countries for over a thousand years, from feudal systems to embryonic democracies used the Saracens, each other, the Knights Templar and the Knights Hospitaller, amongst others. Basically, if you're an incompetent government and can get a population to blame [insert name of despised group here] instead of holding you to account for your failings, or the problems you're taking the country into you'll last longer, look better and be under less pressure.
