Sometimes my favorite answer to this kind of question is unwelcome, so feel free to ignore if you feel called... I'm very much opposed to positive thinking efforts. It's not that negative thinking is good, it's that trying to manipulate your thoughts has some unwelcome side-effects. Here's more about that, if you're interested: http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/3911355

Ive read it, and seen the movie, as well as many other meta physical type movies, the secret is more focused on the material apsect of the ability of thoughts to project you to where you want to be, the realm of positive thinking has long been established, right back from the time of the early 1900's, some of the knowledge still being used today originates from scripts from that time, there is more to our reality than we as humans realise, and indeed the mind is an all powerful tool.Staying positive, especially in hard times, as are currently abound in and around our planet, is important. Reading the secret can do no harm, it may help project you to a happier and easier place to remain upbeat :)

I haven't read it, but I've been in tough places before. It's hard when you're stressed, and not very productive at first, but spending time in silence in a comfy chair every evening is very relaxing. Read something inspiring first and mull it over if you'd like. If negative thoughts or fears come up, gently release them, and replace them with a positive statement like "I'm going to come out the other side of this happy and strong". An attitude of gratitude works wonders. . I would also recommend the book "As a Man Thinketh" - easily googleable. I think in at least one edition it was updated to be "As a Person Thinks". . I disagree w/ Hasn't Been. Cultivating positive thoughts and letting negative ones go is like taking care of a garden - you pay attention to the flowers and plants you want to see bloom, and remove the weeds that would grow and choke out the good ones. It isn't manipulating your thoughts to focus on the good and to realize the truth about yourself; you need to take care of yourself mentally and emotionally as well as physically. . If you're a church-goer, you might see if there are any Unity or Religious Science churches around you (these are different from Unitarianism and Christian Science). The Secret is very Unity-esque. They focus on practical methods for bringing increased good into your life. I dunno how coherent that all was - I'm tired. I'll keep you in my thoughts & prayers. :)
