You could take a creative writing class at a local college. Also, try keeping a journal. Writing regularly helps you to get better and better. good luck!

Writing is one of those things that you can really learn by doing. Try writing a blog. You will be amazed how much your writing improves simply by practicing.

I agree with all, also read as much as you can.

Yes, blogging. Also, try aBag's sister site - eHow - you might make a bit of cash, eventually, but more importantly, you can work on expository writing, though the structure can be stultifying sometimes. Also, check out their 'how to write' articles - short and to the point, though sometimes shallow and, sadly, poorly written. Yes also, writing classes - having others critique your work, especially a teacher who has read a lot of beginning work and knows typical spots for improvement, can help. Yes also, lit classes expose you to the great writers of all time. Being an English major, especially during senior year, had me reading a 'great' (hard) book a week, analyzing it, and writing a 10 page paper on it. If you can't take classes, join reading groups at bookstores - you'll meet cool, thinking people and hear other perspectives. If you can't take classes, join a local writer's group, for the invaluable critique, and also the camaraderie. Learn the rules of grammar, and improve yours - everyone can always improve. Improve your vocab (again, everyone can always improve) - get a word of the day online in many places, and try and use it everyday for a week - that's 365 words in one year. Expressive, scintillating words are a writer's stock in trade. fun to play online, and good for the world too: http://www.freerice.com/index.php Also, do some deep research into paragraph structure, sentence structure, etc. If you want to write fiction, plot and character analysis is useful. Even writing cogent answers on aBag is good practice
