The infant must be in a car seat or the cab driver will not take the fare.

As an ex-cabdriver I can tell you one thing that goes in my state-that is that if I were to haul an infant who was not in a child's carseat, not only would my license be in jeapordy, but so would the business license of the cab company whom I worked for. I have been cussed numerous times because people don't want their child (for whatever reason) to ride in a child's carseat, even though the cab company supplied the carseats for the children upon request. Being a cabdriver, I have literally stopped the cab if a child managed to get out of the carseat or if the parent's took the baby out while I was driving. I then refused to go anywhere until the child was fastened back into the carseat. As far as I know, all states have laws stating that all children under 4 years or 40 lbs be in an approved child carseat for their safety. There is another point as well; if an infant was being transported in a cab without the use of a child's carseat and the cab was involved in an accident wherein the infant was hurt/killed then the cab company would be at fault and liable (and the driver could face criminal charges). Driving a cab is hard enough work, dealing with people cussing you all day...but to get cussed over trying to protect their own child is highly upsetting and I have almost come to blows over it with another driver.
