I am a mexican citizen residing in mexico and want to open a brockerage account in the United States. I will have the W8BEN form. Do I have to pay taxes on capital gains, on interest, on dividends. If so, at what rates? Will anything be withheld?

We live in Texas (no income tax); we have land for sale in CA. When it sells, do we have to pay Capital Gains Tax to CA even though we have no income in CA? How much is CA Capital Gains Tax rate? How much is the Fed Captial Gains Tax rate?

If i have 0$ income and 100,000$ long term capital gains in 2008, will i pay 0$ federal income tax? remember that in 2008,9, and 10 that capital gains tax is 0% for the 2 lowest tax brackets. fwiw i file head of household. how is the tax calculated?
