I don't know the answer to your question, but I suspect that the answer is 'No.' generally, the executor of the estate is the one who looks after the death certificate. There seems to be more to this story than you could fit into the question. Who told you he died? do you know any of his other relatives or friends that you could ask about him? Where did he work? could you go to his workplace and check it out? Did the 2 of you live together? Did he have any children? I am just very curious about this now that you have opened up this question.

i dont know wheather you can or not but I think you have the right to know whether or not they are dead. you could search for information, find out the person who told you they were dead. Then find out the long line until you find the first person to say they were dead. then just search, search, search for more information.

I believe it is public record. Call the magistrate court for the county he lived.

A death is a public record. Call around the county offices and find out which one handles them. I'm sorry for the loss you suffered. It must have been horrible.

I had a boyfriend who died (we had talked about marriage). I tried to get his death certificate and was told that ONLY family members could get it. I filled out the form, listed that I was his cousin, paid the fee, they sent it to me, no questions asked. There is ALWAYS a way around the system. they will not verify who you are..they cannot verify everyone..just say cousin or some aunt/uncle..should have no problem. You can also research at the library for death reports..accident reports..their are always records somewhere. GL

Death certificates are public records, but they are not available to the general public in many jurisdictions for as long as fifty years after the death date. Death certificate copies are usually issued by the local and/or state health department's vital statistics office. Get the order form, fill it out, and submit it along with the required fee. Maybe you will be lucky.
