I find this a great question. Chances are, things that are interesting to you would also be interesting to your friends. One approach that might work is to concentrate on learning more about some current topics. Most people like humor, and stories about strange, or weird, or unexpected real-life events. Think about the kinds of things you like to hear from other people, and work on being able to respond in kind.

Good question, I have that same problem.

If you have nothing to say, don't say anything. Move on to something else, maybe read a book or whatever, but maybe it is time to get off the computer at that point and do something constructive for awhile.

When someone asks how you are, actually tell them. Don't jsut say good "Actaully, I'm kinda crappy, because today I blablabla, and then I blablabala, which reminds me of when I blablablad with my blabalabla." Then you can askt he person how they are, and chances are they'll start to blablabla as well!

Well, basically what I do is, I tell them about what happened to me today and update them on some stuff. I would talk about tv shows and things like that. Its really not a hard thing to do. I tell them stories sometimes to.
