  • Not common. But if you consider the number of stars in our galaxy alone, then remember how many galaxies there are (an infinite number) I suppose they are common enough. We just don't see that many in our short lives.
  • I always thought that supernovae are quite rare. According to this article, there have only been a handful of supernovae witnessed in our solar system during the last few millenia. http://www.scribd.com/doc/2053311/Historical-Records-of-Supernovae-Astrophysics
  • Supernovas are incredibly rare IN OUR ARM OF THE GALAXY even if one happened it would not be close enough top see with the humen eye.
