Has anyone ever used a double or triple threaded tap in metal? For what application would this be used, or have you used it? This is somewhat of a machinist question.

i believe that using multiple leads {that is what the term is for starting points on a fastener] is used on finer threads so that the movement of said bolt is more accurate.or measured more accurately

Hallo, Mr. tolman is right. Double or trible threads are used to speed up the opening or closing action of a threaded part. Often used in plugs, bottles or threaded lids. Used to be used on clamping fixtures on milling machines or lathes. So far I,m aware of it is still used in making of exthrusion dies and similar objects.
