Answer to:
Why is the cost of college textbooks so high?
I think part of it has to do with the very specific nature of college textbooks. For example, if you are in a literature class, you will most likely be able to buy paperback versions of books that a lot of people have read and/or are reading. These books will most likely be cheap. However, compare that to a biology course in say, Genetics. Not many people are going to be studying Genetics,...

Answer to:
Is caffeine really bad for you? In what ways, specifically?
I think that we should really ask what is meant by "bad", rather than simply looking at whether or not caffeine is addictive. A lot of things are addictive, but some people can, in fact, do them in moderation (in fact, I would argue that most people can). So, yes, caffeine may be addictive, but does that necessarily make it "bad"?

The Intel Core i7 is extremely powerful and uses a very small amount of energy when compared to other comparable chips. However, you're going to pay a very high premium for that processing power and low energy consumption.
If you are looking for something that might be a little cheaper, a comparable processor is the AMD Phenom II X6. It uses slightly more energy, but is easier on the wallet...

Answer to:
How do I solve for x? I already simp. as much as I knew...
7x + 14=6x
You need to isolate X on one side, and remember that anything you add or subtract on one side must be done to the other, to keep the equation equal.
Example:
5x+12=2x
To solve for x, we first subtract 5x from both sides, which leaves us with:
12= 2x-5x or 12=-3x
Now, you simply divide both sides by -3 (because -3x/-3=x)
And you're left with:
X=-4
Hope this helps.

I'd say go with a Belkin or Netgear. Unless you want to shell out the money for an Apple Airport Express or Extreme.
Steer clear of Linksys. I worked as a network technician for the last company I was with, and we went through three Linksys routers in the course of a year.

I read, but not as frequently as I used to. I don't really have a problem with that. The internet provides a lot of useful information.

Yes, when I was a kid (probably around 12 or 13). I never got caught, but some friends of mine did and ended up having to do 180 hours of Community Service for stealing something as stupid as a bag of pens. That was a pretty serious deterrent for me, that and as I got older I started to explore morality more and have since stopped my shoplifting ways.

I would say that I do, but not too far. I dated one girl who loved to be slapped, bitten, cut, and called everything from slut to whore to "a dirty fucking bitch who's going to get on her knees and eat that other girl's pussy right now." Who am I to deny her that satisfaction? ;)
Oh, and alright. I admit that I do like humiliating and degrading a girl in bed.

Do you think stupid people shouldn't breed? Lol...
I think that the "eugenics"(or what was labeled eugenics in the earlier part of the century) movement has already shown it's dangers, and by limiting personal freedom even to people with lower than average intelligence we are infringing on their human rights.
However, I do think that people should be making educated choices about whether or not to have children, and I think...

Do any atheists believe in life after death?
Sure they do.
Atheist does not mean "lack of belief in any type of spirituality", it simply means "lack of belief in a god or gods".
Buddhists, for example, are atheists, in a sense, yet they still have many religious beliefs.
Answer to:
Would people rather hear the truth or something that would make them happy?
People THINK that they want to hear the truth, but in reality people want to hear something that caters to them and makes them "comfortable" and "at ease". Most of the time, the truth is ugly and naked and hurtful, and goes against what we're told to believe.

I cheated (kissed a random when drunk) on my bf 6 months into the relationship. I have never cheated before or after. I'm in another country without him, if I don't cheat on him while I'm here and prove myself, should I tell him about my past mistake?
Did the kiss mean anything? If not, allow yourself the mistake, forgive yourself, and avoid destroying the relationship and causing further harm by telling him.

If A is good, and B is good, then A+B must be even better. Is this true?
Not necessarily. What kind of Good are A and B? If they are, say, two goods that would cancel each other out, then the statement is not true.
For example, Medication A helps cure cancer, but increases the likelihood of another disease. Medication B cures the other disease, but increases the likelihood of cancer.

Sometimes I just want to talk to people; Would it be a bad idea to walk up to a stranger and start a conversation?
It's really all about the situation and context. If you're out at a bar or something, where the environment is more social and laid back, then it would definitely not be a bad idea to start up a conversation with someone. However if someone is out shopping or anything like that, where they are actually trying to "accomplish" something, it might be more of a disturbance than...

This is my suggestion (which may be contradictory): Don't tell him what to do. Present your concerns, your thoughts, your feelings, but don't accuse him of anything or try to control his actions. Simply take account of your own thoughts and feelings on the situation, and then ask him to explain his own. After that, ask him more questions about the situation that are related to your...

Time is the procession of events that we cannot stop. It is the remembrance of the past, the experience of the present, and the hope for the future. It is categorized by the human brain in a way that makes us experience it as we do, however in reality time may occur much more slowly or more...

Nope. Some of the nicest jeans I've ever had were womens' jeans! I'm tall and skinny, and so a lot of guy jeans don't fit me very well. Besides, nowadays it's hard to tell anyway. A lot of models, etc, are opting for a more feminine look.
Answer to:
Do you think teachers should be allowed to wear jeans to work? Why or why not?
I think that teachers should be able to wear whatever they want as long as it's not offensive or showing too much skin.

One thing that you learn in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is of a "warped" type of thought called "Fortune Telling." When you tell fortunes about the future or about what people thinking, you're drawing unsupported conclusions about the future based upon something that probably isn't true. It's good to think about the future, consider the future, but trying to...

In our culture today, do you think great beauty 'messes' with a woman's psyche? How?
I think that great beauty messes with everyone's psyche. The media constantly pushes images and ideas upon our minds that dictate what it means to beautiful, popular, etc. This creates a sense of value that we don't necessarily want or need, and then we continually strive to be something that either A.) Agree.
Example (that a lot of people don't understand):

Not necessarily! Causation doesn't necessarily exist. Just because the sun has risen a million times before doesn't mean that it will continue to rise as it has. I find it that it's mostly about your state of mind. If you're impatient, you tend to try to force things more because you want them to happen quickly. If, however, you are a patient person, you tend to force things less and just "let them flow", because you can wait for an outcome or result.

In your opinion which is more responsible for causing an increase in cancer, products we use in the home, or the produce we eat?
Cancer is defined as an uncontrolled and abnormal process of cell division. This can be brought on by mutation or environmental effects. For example, skin cancer is caused by UV Radiation, which causes the cells to mutate, divide, and then spread uncontrollably and in no discernible pattern. Most foods (even those that may not be healthy for us) do not cause cell mutation. They may cause...

Again, if-then statement:

I'm telling you, if there's a God, and he created a being in his image, then, my friends, God is a cockroach.

Who cares if gay couples get married, how would that effect your life?
This issue came up at work today, and I sort of reasoned this out.
Most faiths seem to think that "God" is Love. If this is true, who are we to deny an expression of true Love? These people are, in fact, doing as God has intended them to do (If said God exists and this is all part of some "plan" or something), and that is to Love one another, unconditionally.

Do you spose that the galaxies are just free falling in space or revolving around somthing?
It's my very limited understanding (and interpretation of information) that galaxies do revolve around something unknown. Theories of Gravitation have shown that masses attract one another (by which devices is certainly debatable), so I think it's safe to say that galaxies (which are very large collections of mass) probably do the same thing.

Height, for me, is a big deal, because I'm a tall guy and women who are taller than me are simply unattractive, in my opinion. However, that's not to say that I think they're horrible people, but I probably won't date them or anything like that.

Does the endorsement of a product by a famous person influence you at all?
It really depends on the product they're trying to sell. If Roger Federer says "Buy Wilson Tennis Racquets, because they're the best" and then he plays the US Open with one, then the racquets are probably pretty high quality. However, if he was endorsing something like skin cream or whatever, I'd probably be less likely to buy it.

Why isn't Slash in the top 10 in any ''Greatest Guitarists List''?
Because if we're talking about pure technical ability and the amount of influence that he's had on guitar players, he's relatively far down the list. Guys like Jimmy Page, David Gilmoure, Joe Satriani, James Petrucci, and even Tom Morello or Adam Jones have done more as far as defining their own kind of style and reinventing the way the guitar is looked at goes.

For those of you who have ever been in therapy, counseling, or went to a psychologist, did it help you, hurt you, or make no difference to yourself and/or your situation? Any thoughts on psychologists methods, etc?
I've been to a total of 5 therapists, 4 for personal counseling, and 1 for relationship counseling.
Relationship counseling, was, in my opinion, a waste of time and money. The therapist automatically took my significant other's side on every issue, and it became a battle of them versus me, rather than trying to actually fix the relationship. The relationship ended shortly...

I don't believe that, in general, people go to Hell period. We are human beings. We make mistakes. IF God exists, he/she/it ought to be aware of this and allow us our transgressions. However, I think there's a difference between making a mistake and learning from it, and repeating the same mistake infinitely because you refuse to evolve from an infantile state of ignorance....

Do you believe that it is impossible to overcome evil with evil? Can you "fight fire with fire" in a moral sense?
First, we have to define what it is to "overcome" something. After all, a lesser evil can easily be replaced by a greater, more powerful evil, and in that sense, has not the greater evil overcome the lesser evil?

Considering the mass of the Death Star compared to the the mass of a Star Destroyer, I'd say yes. All things have some level of gravity, and since the mass of the Death Star is much more than that of the destroyer, it's gravitational pull would probably be enough to attract the destroyer.

Why has Christianity seem to have fallen out of favor in recent years and agnosticism and atheism are on the rise? People almost seem ashamed to profess they are Christians or no longer attend church. If you admit that you are, you are ridiculed.
Look at the people representing Christianity. Who would want to be a part of any church when religion, in general, is very corrupt and self-serving nowadays?
I've met very few Christians who actually live what they preach, and they are some of my best friends, but when someone proclaims to be a part of the Catholic church or of the Christian faith and then does the exact opposite of...

If you were near death would you FIGHT to stay alive?I thought so-but when I was very close to death I gave up and just acquiesced to the fact that death was imminent. Is this not counter to the survival instinct? What benefit is this attitude?
I will physically fight to defend my life and the life of those that I care about.
However, when it comes to illness, if I were in a state that didn't allow me my autonomy or my dignity as a human being, I would let go.
There are things worse than death.

If the odds are highly against an event occurring (say, 10^50 to 1 against or worse), can you say that said event is truly impossible? Is there a difference between "impossible" and "highly improbable"?
Nothing's impossible. Very, very unlikely, maybe, but not impossible.
To say something's impossible is to say that we can predict every detail of the future, which we can't.

I think that people should be allowed to do as they please as long as they don't hurt anyone else.
That being said, second-hand smoke is a very, very large danger to children. It can cause all kinds of lung disease and health complications. This enters the realm of harming another person with your actions, particularly a person who is too young to know any better.

It's better to learn at an early age so that you can get your fingers used to the strings and what it takes to form chord shapes. You can learn at any age, but I'd say start as soon as possible.
I started learning when I was about 12 or 13, and I've been playing consistently for 8 years now. It's probably one of the best things I ever took up for myself.

The only problem I'm having with it right now are the pickups. I may replace them with some EMG humbuckers in the near future.

Could the seemingly endless war in IRAQ potentially bankrupt the USA?
It won't necessarily bankrupt the country, but it will drive inflation through the roof.
Typically, War increases overall profit. That's the reason the US continually finds a new enemy. Without an enemy, our defense department would go for broke, and since we've made it a large part of our economy, that could possibly destroy the US economic infrastructure.

Actually, I disagree. I don't remember a moment in time when I chose to be straight. I think it's a product of genetic and environmental factors that express themselves in different ways under different social, developmental, and environmental conditions.
And Kinsey's studies have shown that most (if not all) humans are born with a tendency towards bisexuality.

"Leverage": Why can't Americans understand that this is NOT a verb? It's a noun. There is no such thing as "To leverage".
I'm American and I understand that, so apparently some of us can.

Answer to:
If you and your partner are going to a party, who is the designated driver?
I usually am. I like to stay sober when I'm with my girlfriend, because I don't really need to be drunk to have a good time, and I like to be able to take care of her if something happens. I also like knowing that she's getting home safe and that that I'm aware of what's going on just in case the situation goes awry.

I'd say let her do it, but make sure that the place you're getting it pierced is certified, clean, professional, and knowledgable.
Ask to see the equipment they use. Ask to to see their autoclave, and if they don't have one, or won't show you it, leave. If their jewelry isn't sterilized and individually packaged, along with their needles and everything else, leave....
