My neighbor has a tree on their property but the roots are coming onto my property and pushing up against my foundation. Who's responsibility is it to cut this thing down?
You would think that it was your neighbor's problem, but that is incorrect. Trees and shrubs etc. do not count for encroachment of property. Most towns in the US will deem it your responsibility because it was not the intent of the neighbor to have a root system that expands onto your property. However, you have the right to cut the root if you want, and maybe can talk to the neighbor...

Probably with architectural awe, as the rest of the world does. In a religious sense, probably not so favorably, but that does not matter-they are amazing pieces of art.

What type of creature is a daddy long-legs?
A daddy long-leg is either a crane fly or an arachnid (confusion of common names is ridiculous). I'm guessing the one you are referring to is the latter, an arachnid (other common names include granddaddy long-legs or harvestmen).
Specifically it is an arachnid belonging to the Order Phalangida (or Opiliones). It is commonly thought to be the most venomous animal in the world--another...

I learnt that amphibious animals breathe through their glands . When do they breathe through it? In land? does that mean they do not use gill chambers or any other sort of organ? What about in water? Please explain ! thanks !
Most amphibious animals have lungs (with the exception of plethodontid salamanders and maybe a couple smaller groups). In the case of the aforementioned salamanders, they breath through nasolabial groves (grooves that run from their nostrils to the anterior of their pre-maxillary bone--this works through capillary motion). The amphibians (and animals in general that...) that breathe via their...

Answer to:
Can you get high from licking a toad?
"Toad-licking" has become more increasingly popular in recent times. However, the bufotoxin responsible for the psychedelic effects is very dangerous and potentially lethal. Even more disturbing is that the effects of the toxin are not stimulated orally, so in reality the only high you receive is from an allergic reaction to the toxin. Pretty stupid thing to do nonetheless.

In the US, is it harder to get into college now than it was 10 years a go?
Yes and no. It is easier for minorities to get into college nowadays (purely objective standpoint) because of affirmative action. It is also probably easier for the general public to get into colleges because, sad to say, it is becoming all about the money for a lot of universities. However, I will say that it is probably more difficult to get into the top schools.

Answer to:
Who else think that pornographic websites should be banned?
Another reason (yes, I'm starting fresh-maybe this one won't spur so much negative ratings ha):
It is illegal to view porn if under the age of 18 (in the US at least), because it is harmful to developing minds (although it is regularly accessed by minors, with no repercussions). If something is considered harmful for a developing mind, then it means it can warp the mind in a negative...

Who else think that pornographic websites should be banned?
I think they should be banned for the main reason that they impound negative stereotypes and degradations into the minds of the viewers. People may not think they are harmful, but "porno"s are insidious and many times people become addicted-leading to broken relationships. Also, I am 100% positive the entire "child-porn" industry started by someone who was already...

Trees expel oxygen and intake carbon dioxide-thus provide us with the air (1/20th) we breathe, and regulate the temperature of the atmosphere via the build up of greenhouse gases (CO2 is one). It is indeed a very large contradiction. The most simple and basic way to learn something is by immersion not by aural stimuli. Children, as we know, are simple. It is hard for them to separate words from actions.
Plus, if you tell a child to do as you say, not as you do, it could be interpretted that your words are a lie and you aere just subjecting them to harsh treatment.

Absolutely not. If it were only five years there would be much a more considerable environmental disaster than is recognizable today. Besides, I happen to believe that much of the "global warming" today is part of a natural cycle the Earth goes through, albeit there are obviously more carbon byproducts released in the atmosphere today than there were a few hundred years ago.

Do consuming Papaya seeds do make you test positive for banned substances?
I am fairly certain that they would NOT. Given today's technology, that point is probably trivial (as was proved the myth that poppy seeds test like marijuana). You should do some more research yourself, but I am about 95% sure. Hope this helps.

Water is made up of H2O. But helium & oxygen r combustion matter .but Water is not a combustion one .If we separate ,it will be very useful.how to separate it .did anyone tired it .
The H is for hydrogen, not Helium, and Oxygen is also a useful combustible as it is needed for things to burn. It is not too difficult to separate, but the only problem is that it is not terribly efficient.

Ha umm, well unless it is the amount that would be a decent tip at an average costing restaurant, he is probably making a lot of people angry (with the exception of McDonalds' cashiers).
By the Way, McDonalds is disgusting and is one of the leading contributors to America's obesity...

Answer to:
How might the acid-fast characteristic of Mycobacterium enhance the organism's ability to cause disease?
I don't necessarily think that specific characteristics increases pathegonicity (obviously it is only the mycolic acid in the cell membrane that is responsible for the acid-fast characteristics). The only way I know is possibly they are misdiagnosed due to their difficulty of being stained-though this is such a minute possibility it is almost a moot point.
Answer to:
What are the large stained areas on a sputum slide?
Probably either bacteria or some amoebic parasite. Possibly could be larvae forms of macroparasites such as N. americanus, etc...
Answer to:
What type of culture medium would increase the size of a bacterial capsule?
I've never heard of a medium that would actually increase the capsule. There are a few stains that can make the capsule stand out (especially when doing brightfield microscopy).

Why do they refer to Black people as African American, and to people from Asia as Asian American, but they never call the white European Americans ? It doesn't mean the first two come from somewhere else, but the White are the Native, right ?
That is just a "PC" term. In truth, 95% (or some stat close to that) of "African-Americans" haven't had ties to Africa for the last 100 years. If a Native South African were living in the USA, he would probably be alienated for calling himself an African-American, when in fact he is probably more African-American than (95%) of the "black people here...

What are the advantages of a jump serve in volleyball?
I'm unconfirmed, so I have to respond this way...
At first it is more difficult to serve that way (just based on getting the timing right-both on hitting the ball at the apex of the jump and the arm swing), but once you master it, it will perform comfortably. Key word though: Practice. Once you get it, the advantages that come with it will be most apparent.

Answer to:
What are the advantages of a jump serve in volleyball?
Simple,
1) If it is a run and jump serve (ie beach volleyball) it allows the server to transfer the momentum from his body and arm to the ball, resulting in a faster serve.
2) In general, jumping while you serve will allow for a better angle on the offensive. It will land closer to the net on the defender's side and make it much more difficult for them to return the volley.

What is your favourite bookstore? Is it a one of the big chain stores or a local, small business one? Why?
I have two answers:
I prefer the larger book stores if I am looking for a test prep book (ex MCAT, GRE, etc...) or a good selection of literary classics.
However,
I prefer the smaller (ie independent) stores if I am looking for original copies of older books, or am just searching around for a good deal.

Be very careful with these dogs, especially if you are going to use them for protective agents. They are not great family dogs, and children should not "play" with them. Of course most answers you receive here will be subjective, so I will try to stay as objective as possible. Obviously budget has to be a consideration. This could be useful in seeing when, and possibly where the tool was made (based on the erosion, weather may be responsible-and if they were a nomadic people the origin of the tool might be better solved). What is the age to be able to a part time job after school?
Depends on what the job is, if you know the person you will be working for, and if you will be getting paid with checks or CASH!
Answer to:
When is it time to putt the plug on a job?
When you wake up each morning and dread going to work (though this might not be a good reason if your job is obligatory). Either case, I recommend securing employment elsewhere before you quit.
Answer to:
What are some different types of bonsai trees?
There are many different types (and then some). Some trees will be better suited for Bonsai though. Personally I have a (scientific names, ha) Taxus, Picea, Vibernum, Tecomaria, Pinus, Ilex (my favorite), and others. mainly depends on how susceptible a tree is to pruning (will it bud back regularly, or just die back). Hope this helps.
Answer to:
How do I water my bonsai tree?
A famous bonsai master once said "In bonsai it rains twice". This means that in the growing season you should water your tree, then about 10 minutes later water it again (keep in mind don't overwater). One point of advice though-don't get into a watering schedule/regimen. Water the tree/s when it/they look like it/they need/s water.

What do you think hair looks like under a microscope?
A hair (under an SEM) looks like one of those Chinese finger traps-without the colors of course!!

Answer to:
Which of these can be seen through a light microscope and which of these structures can be seen through a electron microscope; nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, chromosomes and chloroplast?
Light microscope: Nucleus, chromosomes
SEM: All of those...
Answer to:
Do you suppose there are scanning electron microscopes available for personal use?
Yo SEMs are stating to become really cheap (relatively-you can buy a decent used one nowadays for around 10 grand). The only problem would be finding someone to service it, and of course yo know proper maintenance techniques. It would still be a fairly expensive thing to keep up with. Go for it though!!

Answer to:
Anyone can give me some idea? I try to focus on stone tools now. What can I do using SEM on the stone tools? How can I know when the stone tools have been used?
Hmm, well using SEM, you will need to put the stone in a clamp mount before it goes in the chamber. Then you can view greatly magnified structural characteristics. Or is this not the correct SEM technique... ?

Im an 18 year old male with a lot of hair loss going on. I have a surfers style hair cut so its long and there is a lot of it but I am still worried about the amount of hair I am losing. Is there any way to stop the hair loss?
I'd say just try to find a product to counteract the hair loss. By the way loss is due to a hormone called DHT that collects around the hair follicles. Try to find a product that mentions this on the back of the box, tube, etc...
In a related point, one of my buddy's hair line started receding in high school. He started saying he had a "five"-head instead of a...

Why do we say "loved" in the past tense when refering to someone who's passed away? I know I still feel love for them, it's not gone because they are...
Well I guess the best answer would be most people refer to the physical state of the body when they say loved. When you say love you are referring to the emotional presence of the person. By the way, love is one of the few things that won't fade after death.

Answer to:
Is a gram stain an adequate substitute for an acid-fast stain?
Gram stains and acid-fast stains test for completely different characteristics and are not similar in procedure or resulting characterization (though they are both used for diagnostic purposes). Gram stains work off of peptidoglycan in cell walls, while acid-fast stains rely on the presence of mycolic acid (hence the name of the genus Mycobaterium).
Answer to:
Which bacteria can survive in boiling water?
There are a few extreme thermophiles that can survive temperatures up to (and slightly above) the boiling point of water. This is made possible due to specialized proteins that are heat resistant and will not denature under typical thermodynamic conditions. However, extended exposure to this temperature would undoubtedly kill most species.

My friend doesn't believe in whales. Yep, the huge sea-dwelling creatures - she thinks they're fake. Do you?
Obviously whales are fake-I mean how could something that large survive on plankton or krill???? You know what I think. The same people that performed at the Beijing 2008 Olympics opening ceremony dress up in giant whale costumes and swim around. They try to lure the whale-watchers to China so they can make more money. Haha.

Answer to:
What effect did nonrandom mating have on the frequency of the heterozygous genotype? Why do you think this might be occurring?
I think non-random mating decreases heterozygousity in the long run. This is simply because the variation of mates decreases as time increases. This is the same basic principal as inbreeding. Initially there is no harm done, but after a period of several generations homozygous genotype frequency is dramatically increased because of a decreased gene pool.
Answer to:
How might flagella contribute to pathogenicity
Well one way is simply because the flagella (formed by microfilaments) are encased by the cell membrane. Some bacteria (gram-negative) have LPS (lipopolysaccharides) in the outer membrane for structural purposes. When bacteria are in a host they may inadvertently shed their LPS. In humans this acts as an endotoxin is extremely detrimental.
Answer to:
Why do fish die when out of water?
To answer this question sufficiently, basic gill structure must be addressed. The gill arch contains (on one side) structures called lamellae, which are evaginations that increase the surface area of the gills-thus allowing for greater exchange of oxygen between the blood capillaries and water. In water the lamellae are freely separated from each other by pockets of water, but when exposed to...

Answer to:
Why does a deep water fish die immediately after it brought on the surface?
A deep water fish will die when brought on the surface because of the change in pressure. Specifically it has to do with an organ called a swim bladder, which is involved in pressure regulation. When a fish is pulled up to the surface rapidly, the swim bladder does not have enough time to release the gases, and subsequently bursts. This is what kills the fish.
