Answer to:
My baby is 8 weeks old..she was 2 weeks early..she sleeps most of the day..she's only awake around 4 o 5 hours..is that normal?
4 to 5 hours a day awake is actually pretty good! My 1 week old is only awake about 1-2 hours out of the day. She was also 2 weeks early but very healthy. There are different types of babies. Quite babies sleep a lot and hardly ever fuss, sometimes you have to wake them to eat. Average babies are awake more and fuss when they're hungry or wet, and Active babies keep you up at night, and...

When pregnant is it possible to get chest pains?
With my very 1st pregnancy, many moons ago, I was playing monopoly one night and started having chest pains. Nice little story for ya there. With that being said there are a few reasons for having real...

Ladies what is the wierdest food that you ate while you were pregant?
I did the pickles, straight out of the jar on the way home from the store. Ate them all! I did the ice cream too! Lots of fruit, huge bowls of it in one setting. Cereal at 5 am every morning for 3 months. A gallon of milk a day. Raw hot dogs, and I won't eat hot dogs at all not pregnant. And fried eggs.

Its normal. If you have increased pain then its not normal. What your are experiencing now is equal to what you would feel if you had a baby. The procedure is a fairly violent one that is going to cause swelling and tenderness. But I'm sure that when you were discharged they gave you a paper telling you whats normal, and when to call. Increased bleeding, more than a pad an hour or...

I am 15 and have been thinking about having a baby.... Any advice or suggestions?
Please enjoy your childhood while you still have it. A baby will not give you the love that you are looking for. Babies take. They take and take for a long time before they start to give. It takes a grown, mature person to not only handle how much they require but to find reward in giving all your time, love and energy to a baby. Time and time again I have seen teenage moms unable to give a...

My girlfriend took an pregnancy test and it came up positive. Then we went to plan parent hood and she took another one from there and it came back negative. Were not sure what to do? Can someone give us some tips?
False positives are a lot rarer than false negatives. If you get one of each, believe the positive one. Go get a blood test done. It will have to be at a Doctors office. Planned Parenthood and the Health Dept do not do these. It took me 6 weeks to get a positive urine test with my last 2 pregnancies.
Answer to:
Can a woman get pregnant even if she has had her tubes tied? only answer if you have a for sure answer.
Highly unlikely. But the chances are greater depending on how it was done. My mother had the good ole fashioned cut, tie, burn procedure and she has NEVER had a scare. But a couple of friends of mine are just banded and one of them got pregnant but quickly lost the baby. Even if you do get pregnant, the chances of staying pregnant are slim. But if you are tied and you think you are pregnant via...

Are there any disadvantages to a male having a vasectomy?
Not as far as I'm concerned. Its so much easier and safer than Tubal Ligation, and a lot less painful too. Just be sure to get your sperm tested as directed by your doctor. You still have swimmers until they have all been passed, usually about 6 weeks.

WHAT SHOULD BE AVERAGE WEIGHT OF A HEALTHY NEW BORN BABY
7lbs is a good weight. Girls can be a bit lighter. I guess between 6.5 to 7.5 for girls and 7 to 8 for boys. They will be bigger depending on factors of the pregnancy like Gestational Diabetes and the weight gain of the mother. But in a normal pregnancy with weight gain under 20lbs the above weight is the norm. (I am a mother of 4)
Answer to:
What do labour contractions feel like? I'm not pregnant, just wondering.
If you have ever had really bad constipation, or what my husband calls "gut rot", its basically really bad gas that comes and goes every couple minutes until you are finally able to go to the bathroom. Its like that, but 100 times worse and all over your entire stomach and lower back.

Answer to:
Is it true that once you have given birth you forget the pain because you are so elated by your newborn baby?
The real reason you forget the pain is because during birth, the blood is rushing to your uterus and leaving your brain a tad lacking on the oxygen. Add any kind of drugs to that and your complete memory of the event is gonna be missing a few pieces. Plus your body releases endorphines directly after you deliver. I can remember that it hurt like hell, but every time I do it again I think that...

My daughter is 9 she is starting to form breast. The other day I was feeling them to see if they were forming or just fat foresay.Well she said it hurt, does this mean she will be starting her menstrual soon? She has been getting pimples and blackheads also.
In my opinion, which some may not agree with, pull back on the chicken and milk in her diet. It is loaded with growth hormones that is causing her to develop quicker and is probably what is making them so sore. She can experience the soreness anyway, just like boys get cramps in their legs, but if its bad, I have a hunch that pulling back on them will calm it down and may postpone starting her...

What's the differnce between a tween, teen, and preteen?
I kinda thought preteen and tween were the same, but preteen is basically teen "symptomatic" (cuz its a disease, lol!) before the age of 13. 9-10 for girls and around 11 for boys. At 13 they are usually full blown teenager! (look out!)

My period is 7 weeks late and my last period was 4 weeks late, 7 tests have said negative had some pregnancy symptoms. Could i be pregnant?
You could be. Your probably not, but I would go to the Gyno to get a blood test anyway to be sure and then maybe they can tell you why you are consistently late. There could be a serious reason for late, irregular periods, or depending on your age, could be menopause, which you can go into prematurely. My mother in law did at age 36.

My husband's ex tells their son he doesnt have to listen to me & that I am the cause of all the probs. I try to be nice, but she's always harassing me / our children, calling them worthless bastards. How do I deal with her and get her off my back?
Start by getting a notebook and make a log of everything you can for a couple of months. Recording are nice, emails, get things in writing. Then hire a lawyer. I would have your husband talk to his son and tell him that he does indeed have to listen to you, that you are his step-mother and he is to treat you the same way that he treats your husband. God I hope your husband has custody. As for...

Wow! You got me! I looked at those pics and I can't see how she could tell anything from either one. I think she may be a poor technician. I am pregnant with my 4th child right now, I've had 3 boys and now a girl. First of all she could have gotten better pics at only 22 weeks. I agree with everyone else here. Don't allow it. Make him get a court order. (He probably won't) I have a similar issue with my oldest son and we have decided to tell him when he is grown, but not any sooner. Teenagers can behave very erratically when armed with information like this. Just think of how it will feel to you husband when the phrase "YOUR NOT MY FATHER!!" comes...

My son was just caught with marijuana, what is an appropriate punishment for me to give?
Talk with him, a lot. Have him do research and possibly even essays on all the different kinds of drugs, what they do and their dangers. This is what stopped me from doing too much experimenting. I agree with limiting his funds. Weed is not as much of a concern as the friends that come with the weed and what other drugs they could be pedaling. He also needs to completely understand the legal...

Now maybe I have really understanding kids, but when my oldest son told me about a child that he knew that swore, I told him that when children swear, it reflects poorly on the parents. And further more, it gives the listeners the idea that the...

If you saw a parent spanking a small child on his/her butt in a store, would you intervene? Would you call the police? What if the child was screaming and struggling?
If a child was getting popped on the butt and you called the police, I would hope the person that called would be charged money for mis-using taxpayers dollars, kind of like the volunteer fire-station does, because spanking your child is not against the law! Now as far as the screaming and struggling, maybe thats why the kid was being popped on the butt, maybe the kid was in the middle of a...

I got grounded because I have B's and two C's. Is this fair?
I know there is more to this. You probably got grounded for the C's, right? Not the B's. How long have you been working on getting this grade up? And what is the reason for the C's? Typically if you are struggling, it is with one class, but a major drop in grades indicates at the very least, loss of focus. When us parents ground you for grades, its to get you to re-focus by...
Answer to:
This is for all the anti-spanking people, Why do you all think that all these alternative methods work so much better when teen pregnancy, teen drug use, disrespecful teens, etc. are all on the rise?
I find that people that think a pop on the butt is abuse, tend to have to most misbehaved kids. I spank, and my 11 and 9 year old would never consider me to be mean, or fear me in anyway. I use other methods of punishment as well, such as time out and grounding, but there are times for a sound spanking. I am not totally against a belt or paddle but its not necessary by any means. Leave them be. Let nature take its course. Its not really a good idea to raise them and set them loose as they will not live very long in the wild without the knowledge they learn from their mom. She will come back. I would keep your dogs penned up for a bit though. I hate to say this but if something gets to them, this is nature. If they are found guilty, they are asked to pay, at that point if they can't the Plaintiff can put a judgment on them for a small fee. The judgment will then follow that person around for a very long time until they pay it. Case in point, We had to pay off my husbands ex-landlord before we could buy a house because he had a $800 judgment she placed on him 7 years prior. The mortgage...

Thats kind of a hateful question. Insecurity has nothing to do with "Come to mommy". In the beginning you say this to reinforce what you are called when he is learning to talk. Then it just becomes habit. I don't want to be called "me" and I don't see anything wrong with it.

Maybe you are off on the actual time you got pregnant. but if you are late, all signs are pointing to yes so far. The bleeding is normal. You can either retest every couple of days, or you can make an appointment for a blood test.

Answer to:
I recently went on vacation and took extra horomone birthcontrol pills to avoid my period while there. my husband and i had unprotected sex and he did not pull out. this was yesterday. could i possibly be pregnant?
If you normally take the pill and took extra pills, I would say probably not. Is there a reason for you believe that you are pregnant. Typically the point of taking the pill is so you can have unprotected sex with your husband, right?
Answer to:
It's been 4 months and I haven't had my period. I had some spotting 30 days ago but that was it. All of HPT tests have been negative. Should I assume the spotting was my period and that I'm not pregnant?
I'm sure there is more to this but yes, listen to cardinal. Are you on the depo-provera shot? There are some birth controls that can stop periods. I didn't have mine for almost 4 years because of the shot.
Answer to:
AM I PREGNANT? I TOOOK 2 HPT AND THEY CAME OUT POSITIVE BUT THEN I GOT MY PERIOD BUT THE IT CAME OUT LIGHTER THAN USUAL USUALLY I CARRY A HEAVY PERIOD. SHOULD I TEST AGAIN AFTER MY PERIOD OR GO TO THE DOCTOR?
Sometimes you will continue to have a period. I would say you are pregnant though. I have never heard of a false positive on hpt. I would get to the doctor though just in case there is something wrong.
Answer to:
Have any of u heard of women that were pregnant but never test positive on a hpt?
My last pregnancy I had problems with hpt. It took 2 weeks beyond when I was supposed to start my period to get a positive test result. This scared me because I knew I was pregnant. This is caused from the mother not producing enough HCG hormone which is what is detected for a positive test result. I had lost a child previously due to not producing enough of the growth hormone. Weather to worry...

I had sex 12/31 We used a condom and im on the pill He also pulled out I started my period same time i usualy do It didnt seem right to me, bc the blood was brown thought it was just stress im my period now, still brown. Ive gained weight 110-20 pregnant?
doubt it if you really took all those precautions. Have you taken a test? You could be gaining weight from having irregular periods, and your periods could be irregular due to the pill. Take a test, and see your OB. You may need to change pills.
Answer to:
If a girl is 13 going on 14 and a lil chubby and strong and she gets pregnant what are the chances that she could die during pregnancy
The younger you are the higher the risk. This also holds true for older women. A 13 to 14 year old will be a very high risk pregnancy, for both mother and child but mostly for the child. Your body is not truly ready to develop a child right now, but you will likely NOT die. As long as you go to the Doctor, eat right and take your vitamins and do not do anything to increase your risk like smoke...

What do unborn babies see?
I don't think much light actually penetrates the uterus. When you see the pictures of an unborn baby in the womb, they have a light connected to the camera much like in laproscopy. I would say, in my opinion, they don't see anything until they come out and even then, its blurry light.

What was the one thing you have regretted the most? Would you do it again? I got married the first time young and dumb, only lasted 6 months(he cheated). I think I would have saved myself the heart break on this one.
There is really nothing that I can think of that I truly regret, because no matter how good or bad, it was all a part of who I am and where I am today! I can say that I wish I wouldn't have fought so much with my mother as a teenager, but then I wouldn't have moved out so young, acted so stupid and ended up pregnant at 18. Granted it was hard having a baby so young, but I would never...

Create a really cool baby box and put everything of his that signifies baby in that box. Make it a big deal and have him put the stuff in that box. Tell him that its time to be a big boy. Might work. Might just open the doors for potty training. I just took it away from my son in the middle of the night. When he woke up, it was gone. I said "Its ok, you didn't need it anymore, your...

There's a University of B.C. study that says spiritual (religious or not) kids are happier kids. What have you witnessed to support or challenge this claim?
This would make since that children raised with spirituality would be happier. A child raise with spiritual parents would be taught faith and what it means to have faith, to hope and to pray. When things are bad you pray they will get better and you have faith that they will. If raised without that, you may only go on facts, and the facts all point to bad times, you assume times will be bad,...

I have a pinched nerve between L4 & L5 and I am 25 weeks pregnant. This is causing increased sciatic pain etc. What effects will pregnancy have on this or will the pinched nerve have on childbirth?
I have a friend who had this and the increased weight does cause more pain. They make a belly belt to help with this. Get one. Start before your pain increases. I don't know how you feel about natural childbirth, but you might look into pain control options also. My friend did have increased pain during labor in her later deliveries because of the sciatic nerve, but she still did it...

I am 34weeks pregnant and getting mild, sometimes strong pains in my back.Is this normal?
Yep. Caused from two things, the fact that your 8 mths along and carrying extra weight in the front will cause stress on the back that may not go away right after you have the baby. Also now is the time for Braxton Hicks contractions, they will be in the lower back, and in the front alot like period cramps. These are normal and is your bodies way of practicing for the real thing. Also could be...

Since the year 1999 kids are becoming "less" active and "more" spoiled. (True or false,) and why is that?
Definitely less active, because of indoor toys and high fat content in food will make them fell lazy. Some parents do this more than others, some, like...

If you breastfed your children, what age were they when you weaned them? It kind of freaks me out when I see mothers breastfeeding children that can walk and run around.
Here we go again. My friend and I discussed this last night and decided that 3 years is the absolute cut-off. Not to start weaning but to be done no later than 3 years. I personally stopped or would stop from 9 mths to 1 year.

If you ask ped. and family planning they say a child should not see their opposite sex parent naked after they are three years old, because it's inappropriate and confusing for the child, and at that age can start to remember things. So if they say it can
I do think it raises a good point. I remember my third birthday to a tee. So if I were a boy, and being breastfed at the age of three, or older, I think I would feel differently about my mother. Not bad or anything, I just wouldn't want to recall that memory. I would think it would defiantly have an effect on a child's sexuality in some way. My husband recalls getting his first...

I am potty training my 2 1/2 yr old. I also run a home daycare. The ONLY time he gets candy is for going potty, the problem is the older kids think they should get it too, I can't do this at the parents requests. How do I deal with this?
I was not very successful at potty training, so I'm no good on the subject really. My oldest was 3 1/2 before he got with it and with my 2nd child, I put him straight in to underwear and plastic pants and it worked. Rewards never worked, sticker charts got us nowhere. What do you think Jesus meant when he said: "whatever you ask for, believe you already have it, and it will be yours"..(something like that, anyway).
Aside from all the scripture quotes, telling yourself that you have something that you wish for is called affirmations. Its a very positive form of meditation which Jesus did a lot of. Actual history has said that Jesus the man, spent much time with Buddhist people on his travels where they taught him to meditate/pray in a trance like state. So I just logically connect them together.

Just read an article on children being breastfed until age of 7. How old do you think the cut-off age needs to be?
I would think that borders child abuse! With my last baby, I had to stop at 4 months and was upset about it, but I always said when he started cutting teeth I was done. Have you ever seen a baby chew on their bottle nipple....uggh makes me cringe!

My 10 month old baby is not eating as she used to, could this be a problem.
Sometimes their appetite will decrease and they will sleep a lot. It doesn't last very long and it is usually because they are going through a growth spurt. But saying that, it sounds like there may be more to your question. I would say, if its going on for more than a week or so, or is accompanied by any other symptoms, call the Dr.
Answer to:
How do i get my 4 week old on a sleep schedule?
LOLOLOLOL!!! Here's my trick. When he wakes up to eat, feed him 1st! When he falls back to sleep then change his diaper. He will wake up and want more food. You get more bottle into his belly in one setting this way and the more he eats, the longer he sleeps....if you do this every time, you will get him to sleep for 5 hours through the night in 1-2 weeks. It also helps to have a bedtime...

At what age can a child start drinking from a cup, rather than from a nipple/teat, regardless or whether they will still be drinking milk?
around 10 months or so. With my 3 boys, I gave them apple juice in a cup to encourage them to drink out of it. Don't give juice in a bottle though. And to much apple juice can cause diarrhea.

corn is fine if its creamed or something. They can digest it just fine....they make it in baby food... but whole, even cooked can be a choking hazard. Peas on the other hand are probably fine, if your worried about choking just break em open some. There is nothing at all in the skins that would cause a problem. When do babies get fun, like less needy and crying and stuff all the time?
I think babies are always fun. All cute and cuddly when they are tiny and then in the first year when they learn everything they just get better. The needy stuff never stops, not even when they are 25. Try not to look at it as needy, but more like dependent. And you would rather them be dependent on you than someone else because you are the parent.
