In the last hour, I've gotten *22* e-mail notifications of feedback on an answer I posted, with only two comments and no score change. I do like to get some notice that I've gotten feedback, but being mail-bombed is a little much. Help?
Turning off ALL notifications is NOT what I wanted to do. I just wanted to report an apparent glitch. Nice going blaming me for this, guys.

I wrote a Hollywood screenplay about the death of a child. It's pretty emotional for the first half. But then in the last 10 minutes we meet God, who is played by Pauley Shore doing slapstick comedy. Do you feel it's unwise to mix genres like this?
No offense intended, but this seems like mood whiplash, and it would be difficult to make work, IMO.
Answer to:
What types of books (I'm thinking genre more so than specific titles) do you most like to read, and which types have you not gotten into but might like to try?

I grew up Catholic, but if I would have been adopted as a baby by a Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim or any other Religion, I would certainly be a believer of the faith I grew up with. So, aren't religious beliefs a cultural element not connected with the truth?
Not necessarily. I was raised in an agnostic/atheist family (rather fanatically so, actually), and have been LDS since I was 24.

The Book of Mormon.
Answer to:
Have you ever been laid off from a job just because of budget cuts even though you were a great worker? How did it make you feel?
Just happened to me on a temp assignment I'd been on for nearly seven months. I wasn't heartbroken, I've been pursuing options for a permanent job (the temp thing is getting VERY old!) anyway, and will likely find something with a shorter commute.
Answer to:
Have you ever been laid off/fired from a job and were only given a couple hours or less notice? How did you feel about that?
Happens in temp work all the time. As to how I felt about it, depends on the job, whether it had allegedly had long-term potential, etc.

Answer to:
Why don't women put the toilet seat up?
My husband and I have agreed on closing the lid after use (we both do). This is fairer (since both of us have to move something when using the facilities), and safer for pets and plumbing (landlords tend to take exception to tenants clogging the plumbing with stuff that fell in). As for why women prefer the seat down, two things occur to me: we're prone to falling in, since we sit for all...
Answer to:
With "new" technology such as cell phones and caller ID, do you still say "Hello, this is ___" when you call someone, or do you just start a conversation with no introduction, assuming the other person already knows who you are?
I identify myself out of habit, unless I'm absolutely certain the other party knows my voice (this is pretty much limited to immediate family or close friends I talk to a lot).
Answer to:
Do you ever talk to your computer screen like the person on the other end can hear you?
All the time. :-)
I also talk directly TO my computer. Commentary ranges from coaxing and sweet talk to insults to threats (such as reminding it about the morning star we own, or pointing out that I control the power cord).

What are your thoughts on driving with a cell phone? Do you think it should be made a national law to prohibit talking on cell phones while driving?
Stupid, selfish, dangerous.... I've nearly been hit too many times by cell-phone-yakkers who were just TOO busy jabbering way to care about that 4000 or so pounds of car they're "driving" drifting from lane to lane, running stop signs/red lights, nearly hitting pedestrians, etc. Add to that the number of studies demonstrating that even in hands-free, a cell phone impairs a...

Answer to:
Situation : You are in a toilet - halfway answering nature's call and your (1) boss (2) Spouse calls you on your cell phone. - What would you do?
Since it would have to be a "call 911 ASAP" level emergency for me to be willing to use the phone while in the bathroom, I'd let either call roll to voicemail and call back as soon as I was done.

What are your thoughts on driving with a cell phone? Do you think it should be made a national law to prohibit talking on cell phones while driving?
I think it's dangerous, stupid, and selfish. Unless it's an emergency, no, your chit-chat is NOT more important than the lives you're risking! I've seen several different studies (including a Mythbusters test) that show that someone who's yakking on the cell phone, *even in hands-free*, drives as badly as someone who's legally drunk. Depends on who's calling. My default is "Ode to Joy". Work-related calls (temp agencies, etc.) get "Halloween" (nice urgent-sounding attention-getting one). Usually, how much I'd love to implant their phone in one of their sinuses or an ear canal(which would hurt them more than the suppository approach). What is your biggest pet peeve when you are talking on the phone with someone? (Ex. chewing gum, drinking/eating, heavy breathing, etc.)

How do you react when someone (a friend) opens and reads your text messages and then tells you about an hour later "oh, you got a message before"? my friend has been doing this alot lately and i want her to stop it. any ideas how to politely tell her?
I wouldn't bother being polite. I'd just tell her to keep her mitts off MY phone and quit reading MY messages! That is rude enough that I don't think she rates much courtesy in being told to quit invading someone else's privacy.

What are the rules for cell phone use and ettiquite in the work place?
I've seen different arrangements in different places. Personally, I prefer places that do not allow cell phones in the actual work area (in break rooms, etc., is fine). When I'm trying to think about my actual job, listening to the person at the next desk yapping about the latest gossip does NOT help.

Answer to:
If you were put on hold while on your phone, how long would you wait?
Depends on a variety of factors, such as whether I'm at work vs. at home (and which phone I'm using at home, since my cell phone is pre-paid and wait time costs me 18 cents per minute), whether you called me or I called you, importance of the conversation....

Is it possible to train a cat to do the kind of tricks that dogs are often trained to do?
Possible, but not probable. In my experience, cats are at least as intelligent as dogs (I'm fond of both, so I'm reasonably objective), but much more picky about their dignity. Most cats I've known would consider tricks beneath said dignity. :-)

A friend leaves her cell pbone on the restaurant table when she goes to the ladies room. It rings, do you answer it for her or let it go to voice mail? If you do answer what do you say?
Let it go to voice mail. I would consider it an intrusion to answer someone else's phone (OK, if it's my husband's phone and the caller is a family member or *mutual* friend, I might answer, but that's the only time I would answer someone else's cell phone unless the owner asked me to).

Answer to:
Am I overly sensitive? A friend answered his phone and told me hurriedly that he couldn't talk because he was watching TV. He should have let the machine answer. Is he inferring that I'm not important enough to leave the TV for?
Personally, if I'm either THAT interested in a program or feeling that anti-social, I just don't answer the phone in the first place, and let my answering machine or voicemail handle it. Ringers CAN be turned off. Answering the phone to tell the caller that my TV show is more important than they are is just rude.

Answer to:
Cell phone etiquette: Is the person your face to face with more important, at the moment, than anybody calling? or do you answer the phone?
I'd glance at the caller ID and go from there. A routine social phone call would go to voice mail. Since I'm between temp assignments currently, a call that might be about potential employment does get priority, but I would excuse myself to the face-to-face person with an explanation. If I'm in an interview, I turn the phone to silent anyway. :-)

I was on a cell phone call with my husband and thought I lost the signal. He told me tonight that he hung up on me. What makes you hang up on a caller?
Rude behavior on the caller's part, such as refusing to take "I really have to go now" as a hint.
Conversation that's deteriorated into an argument (this only applies to my husband, normally)
Poor reception that makes trying to continue the conversation less than useful.

How do you feel about people who chat on cell phones while checking out at the grocery store or standing in line at the bank? (I find it rude)
