Rival 4 Qt Ice Cream MakerPrepare your ice cream recipe according to the directions. Chill and fill the Rival ice cream can about 3/4 of the way full. Do not overfill, as the mixture will expand as it freezes.
  • Step 2:
Insert the "dasher" into the indentation located on the can. Cover with lid provided for the ice cream can. Place can in ice bucket and attach the motor to the ice cream cover. Plug in the motor.
  • Step 3:
Add 2 to 3 inches of crushed ice into the bucket, spreading it around the can evenly. Sprinkle 1/4 cup salt over the ice. Layer ice and salt until you reach the top of the ice cream can, making sure to spread it evenly around the can. Add more ice and salt as needed while the machine is churning the ice cream, which will take about 40 minutes.
  • Step 4:
Unplug motor and remove from ice cream can once it has stopped churning. Remove lid and dasher, carefully scraping all soft ice cream back into the can. The ice cream will be soft in the can after churning. Pack the ice cream firmly into the can, replace the lid and freeze.
