How can I stop my eyelid from twitching and why does it twitch?

I have the same problem. my eye lids twitch. My doctor suggested drinking tonic water with quinine, you can buy it at any store. I drink it as needed or about 8 oz per day. It does help.
I don't remember why it twitches, I guess the cause is not serious.
