Help answer this question below.

I have a girl as a friend, and I love her. This will be a long thing to read, but any advice will really help me out.. Can you PLEASE help?

Okay, so.. There's this girl I really liked as a friend and I was really hanging out with her for a long, long time.. Until I started having feelings for her. I have never asked her if she looks at me the same way, but the way she acts make it clear that she only sees me as a very good friend/a brother.
So, what I did is I tried to slowly distance away from her, slowly stopped hanging out with her and stuff. The reason I did this is because I think that it may help to be just normal friends with her, unlike spending 90% of the time with her, which really hurts, as I hate to pretend and hide my feelings.
So, here's the twist. She noticed I've been avoiding her and texted me, saying 'Hey, what convinced you to not want to be my friend anymore, like you used to be? You don't have to say anything else, just tell me the reason. I see that you don't want to be my friend anymore, but I promise I won't bother you.. Sorry that I was trying to be your friend.'
Now, the way I see it, I have 2 options. 1. Stall it, and tell her everything is okay and that she's just hallucinating, or make up something else. 2. Tell her the truth.
What do you people think I should do? Any help will be appreciated.. Thanks.

    I agree with Prunesquallor, you should just tell her the truth about what's going on, but don't just come out and say you love her, that would come as a shock and scare her off... Just say that you've been distancing yourself from her because you've grown to see her in that way, and you needed time to think things out of whether to tell her or not cause you didn't want to ruin your friendship with her... sound good? good luck and let us anonymous strangers know how it went :)
