Some say that aborted fetuses go to Hell, since they've never had a chance to do what is required to reach salvation. Is this true?

A fundamentalist preacher told me that aborted fetuses do indeed go to hell, because they haven't been saved (haven't accepted Jesus into their hearts, haven't been baptized, or whatever). If the aborted ones shot straight up to heaven, why would fundamentalists be so opposed to abortion? They'd get eternal paradise without having to deal with this less-than-paradisaical earthly existence.

Of course, I realize that fundamentalists aren't the best source for views of "mainstream" Christianity. However, the opinion is out there, and since this particular topic isn't directly addressed in the Bible, no one knows for sure. However, the Old Testament says some interesting things about the worth of a person.

    • You have some good point, but i have to ask you what about the babies that die days or hours after they are born or babies that dye because of an accident. They weren't saved are blessed either? Please explain

    • This answer gets a useful because you do a good job of explaining the thinking of such people. However, I do strongly disagree with the doctrine.

    • Yeah, I disagree with it as well. The fundamentalist stance seems to be that if you haven't done whatever song and dance you need to do to be saved, you're going to hell. Period. Definitely not an act of a loving God.

    • Doesn't make sense to me. Miscarried fetuses don't get baptized. Why would they go to hell for not being baptized?

    • Their logic plus the fact that Jesus equates John the Baptist with Elijah makes me all the more sure that reincarnation is real, and necessary to a better understanding of God's Nature. Hell is reserved for those who make a final, informed decision to serve self rather than God. Everybody else dies once, then resurrects, then rinse and repeat.
