My fella was well into the weed in his early twenties and his lovely friends stuck around all through that period. They tell me now he was boring, uncommunicative and a pain in the rear when he smoked all the time. He lost at least one girlfriend becuase of weed. It doesn't upset everyone like that but it does something similar to my 19 year old son. We can always tell when he's been smoking, because he's a vacant when he's high and when he's coming down he's grumpy depressed and a pain.

My advice is save the money from the weed, put it towards some concerts or a festival trip with your girlfriend. If you are bored when you give up weed get down the gym or get a weekend job, it will soon widen your interests.

It is possible that you could be depressed, it's important to point this out. When I went for advice about my son's weed use, my family doctor told me that abuse of weed, rather than occassional use, was something he would tell a patient to avoid if they were feeling depressed, just to see if that was the cause.

I see that you're wise enough to realise you've got a problem, I'm sure you'll see a solution here or in another way.

    • If you've been a hardcore puffer than you could take a while to see the difference. Good natural ways to beat depression include:
Regular exercise - get the blood pumping, increase the endorphins
Regular sleep - my grandma told me an hour before midnight is worth two afterwards (ie the early you go to bed the better it is for you)
Fresh air - it's old fashioned but it does help
A Very Good Diet - Plenty of fruit and veg, a good balance of healthy food and treats
Have Fun - do some fun stuff, it isn't a luxury it's important to a healthy life.
Do something you enjoy every day - even if it's drinking your tea with a straw.

    • I would suggest doing all these things AND popping along to your general practioner. I would be wary of throwing pills down your neck especially at your age, if he appears to be just pressing you off with them. Ask him if there is a more natural way you can feel better. I did this and my doctor was extremely helpful.
