This country could easily guarantee a minimum standard of living. That would mean bringing every American to a point somewhat above the poverty line. Rent, Food, Medical Care, and higher education would be accounted for. It's a disgrace that this country allows people to go hungry and without medical care. It's un-Christian, and we should stop calling ourselves a Christian country until we ensure that our fellow Americans are okay.
    -
President Richard Nixon, a Republican-Conservative, understood this, and proposed a reverse tax which would bring every American up to this minimum standard. He also favored Universal Medical Care.
    -
An educated American increases the productivity of the American worker and higher education should not be out of the reach of the average American. India graduates six times (percent-wise) the number of engineers that we do.
    -
And no one should leave college with a mountain of debt to pay.
    -
I worked as a dish-washer at a dormitory while in college. Today, my taxes are almost 40% of my income. I'd pay more to live in a moral society.
    -
President Eisenhower, another Republican-Conservative warned us about the Military-Industrial complex that would eat up our tax money --and he was right.

    • I never thought I'd agree with Republicans, especially Tricky Dick, but three cheers for Ike and Dick.

    • Too many of today's Republicans think of Americans as economic units instead of as human beings.

    • xxix You're certainly right about leaving college burdened by debt. College level eduction is a necessity and it should not be so expensive. It should be subsidized or free. Single Payer Universal Health Care is way to go. It would be cheaper than what we have now and everyone would be fully covered. What a joke these insurance companies are...Lastly, anyone who thinks that the working for $10 an hour can pay the bills is nuts.
