Question

Help answer this question below.

I have a 2000 F150 and during cold mornings, the Engine Oil Gage bottoms out for the first few minutes. Then it suddenly jumps to mid point as if something gets "unstuck". Is the gage or sensor sticking, or something more serious with the oil pressure?

Well the guage on your dash signifies oil pressure. So, if I were you I'd hope that the sensor is stuck. But, this shouldn't happen. Check your oil level every morning. I would recommend that you get the vehicle checked out as soon as possible though, since any engine running with low oil pressure will develop internal problems very quickly. Until it's resolved, keep the revs low (below 3000) and only use the truck when you HAVE to. Make an appt at a shop or ford dealer ASAP and take it in. Also, ask them over the phone for their opinion as to what the problem is. They might say to tow it in (who knows?).

Oil is one of those life-bloods of the engine. Don't play down it's signifigance.

    Hope this helps,
    Good luck

    • Proper oil level doesen't mean you have oil pressure. If you have a ticking noise from the motor then you have an issue. It is normally an issue with water on the sensor freezing, bad wire connection, or faulty sensor.
