Are Mormons allowed to drink alcohol?

    According to D&C 89, we are to abstain from alcohol except for the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper, and in that case it should be of our own making. Another section informs us the actual emblems used in the Sacrament don't matter as long as it's done in remembrance of Jesus' Atonement. It is now most common to use water.

    As others have said, the Church is made up of individuals who don't always follow everything the Church teaches.
