You're reading What do you think about video games like "Battlefield 1942", etc. that make a game out of a real war? They have them for Vietnam and I hear they are making one for our Iraq war. How do you feel about that?

You don't think it's too soon to be making a video game about something that people are laying down their lives for? People are dieing right this very second over this, and people are itching to play a video game about it. If you want to experience it, just go get a gun and join the military. It's just way too soon, considering the war isn't even over yet!

I don't get that "time makes things unoffensive" mentality... it's not OK to make fun of a current event in which people are dying, but it is OK to make fun of an event that happened 50 years ago where a bunch of people died?

Well no, not really. But I mostly think that the wound isn't as fresh. It seems like salt in an open wound to me. Also, WWII, the people who fought in that war aren't likely to play the video game that is about it. The people in this war, are and are more likely to see it. Vietnam, I'm a little iffy on that one. I still think it's still just a little to soon, but that's debatable.
