Help answer this question below.

24+185- (12-2)7 -76+38 -(9*2)+5=????? This problem was on a quiz last night and the no one can figure out the answer. They gave the correct answer as 1838.... but did not show the verification. ANy ideas if that answer is correct? Thanks

If you wrote it correctly, the answer is 9.
