This scripture is not found in the earliest manuscripts;Eusebius of Caesurae the greatest Greek scholar of the day said that verse was false, added later. He translated that 18 times "in my name".It was because of Roman Emperor Constatine it was put in to give form to his newly added trinity belief(Into Christianity before that time was based on Judasim and thus one God), put into Christianity. Also seeing that everyone from Peter to the 119 with and Paul all practiced and preached baptism in Jesus' name and never esposed a trinity, this would make sense. Finally in the context of history and scripture here are a few thoughts on the subject:We certainly know of a greater number of interpolations and corruptions brought into the Scriptures. .. by the Athanasians, and relating to the Doctrine of the Trinity, than in any other case whatsoever. While we have not, that I know of, any such interpolation or corruption, made in any one of them by either the Eusebians or Arians. Whiston - in Second Letter to the Bishop of London, 1719, p. 15. One would expect this name to be that of Jesus and it is surprising to find the text continuing with 'the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost,' which are no names at all. The suspicion that this is not what Matthew originally wrote naturally arises. In 'Father, Son and Holy Ghost' we have the Trinitarian formula. .. which was associated with Christian Baptism in the second century, as evidenced in the Didache, chapter seven. The S.P.C.K. published in 1964, Volume One, of the Clarified New Testament.
