You're reading So I got a job at a Place called Buckskin Joe. I was hired on as a server and now they have me working in the bar all the time which I don't want to do. They are only paying me waitress wage. What do bartenders usually get paid? What can I do?

They cant legally pay less than waitress wages. And I am barely making minimum wage and the person in the bar has to bust their ass cause they have to cashier and do drinks for a magic show. Also they tell people it is optional to tip out the bartender when the bartender does work for them, so no one tips out the bartender.

Not really when you are only making 7.26 an hour and working 20 hours a week. That is not hardly anything. I have to pay for school and that is not enough to pay anything. There were other jobs at the time I got hired but I was told I would be a server and be working 5 to 6 days a week. So I got screwed over. No other person would take a job bartending only making 4.26 an hour. Other wise why not hire a bartender to bartend and not have a person that was suppose to be a server do the bartending.

Hey I lost my $23 an hour job. Now I'm an intern making $10 an hour, and I have a masters degree. Life sucks. If it isn't paying your bills, then find something else. But I suggest not pissing off your boss until after you've found something.

Yah it just sucks cause they expect the bartender to do like 3 jobs in one while to bar doesn't make much barely minimum wage and the servers are pulling about 12-14 dollars an hour. Plus I was hired as a server not a bartender. I could of gotten a serving job had I of known I was just going to be working the bar. I hate bartending and cashiering so that would of been on of the last jobs I would of picked to do. It just pisses me off that they are trying to screw me over.

Well in most place a bartender would make good money but the bar has a three drink limit which means three beers or three shots and tipping is optional which means no one tips out the bartender. Even though those that work the magic show make minimum wage plus tip and the bar has to poor all the drinks.

Which all means that the bar person is doing a shit load of work and making little while the others are making a lot more and that is why the other girl that was in the bar didn't want to be in there. I asked the boss if she was planning on rotating everyone in the bar which she hasn't been and she just got pissed off and said I don't know. And I said I don't mind being back there a few days a week. Like one or two but I don't want to be stuck back there all the time.
