Why does my dog eat grass?

    Like one of the people that already answered, I don't think we know for certain; however dogs are NOT carnivores: they're omnivores. This means they will eat both plant and animal materials. Grazing on grass may just seem like a good idea at the time. Heck - lots of dogs eat cat feces, too. No one ever said their eating habits were appetizing to people. ;-)

    Sadly, I notice that my dog usually does this before vomiting as well. Perhaps grass is just too stringy and indigestible for them.

    • It is worth mentioning that dogs are part of the order carnivora, also called carnivores, but a carnivore is not always a carnivore in what they eat. Some people (including myself) have been confused by this.
