Prescriptions aren't free. Drug prices are somewhat regulated so they tend to be more affordable than in the USA

As stated above, Canadian prescriptions are not free, they are just at a more decent price than the U.S.

I don't think this practice "leaches of Canada's Medicare". Canada has low prescription prices because, by operating as a single unit, the Canadian Medicare has managed to get very good bulk prices. With a fragmented system of hundreds of healthcare providers in the US, they have not been able to do so. By increasing volume, visiting Americans probably increase the bargaining power of the Canadian systm by a tiny amount.
