I'm not sure what you consider an exorbitant amount, but the parent should pay half the cost of raising the child they helped create. And thankfully the courts help determine what that amount is because all too often the non-custodial parent thinks a few hundred dollars is way too much.

If you don't want to pay child support, then petition for custody of the child and then your ex-spouse can pay you child support, but I'm sure you wouldn't ask them to pay as much as the amount you consider exorbitant.

    • Yes, I read your other questions, so I understand why this question was downrated. Paying $650 a month to support your 2 children out of the $10,000 a month you earn is totally exorbitant. No parent should be made to pay 6-1/2 percent of their hard earned income to support the two children they helped create. Just outrageous! Get real.

    • Great answer. $650 for 2 children is peanuts anyway, IMO.

    • Thanks. I don't normally even respond to downrates, but this person takes the entitlement cake.

    • 650 out of 10000 a month?!?! Most pay 23-50% depending on number of kids. You are getting off easy. Suck it up and pay this miniscule amount and enjoy, you are actually depriving your children. You should be paying several thousand a month.
