When Congress, under heavy lobbying pressure from corporate media, repealed the FCC Fairness in Broadcasting Doctrine in 1988, the Media no longer were required to give equal time to opposing views on complex political issues and the American people have since been denied the full story on these issues. If the opposing view is determined not to be in the interest of the corporate/government status quo, it is no longer effectively delivered rationally and unbiased by mainstream media as said media is owned and controlled by a few very large corporations with their own agendas and not the public's interest in mind.

This quickly gave rise to inflamatory personalities such as Rush Limbaugh, David Medved, Bill O'Reilly and many others with the only dissenting views interpreted and described by them, or muffled via editing, or not broadcast at all. This is why dissenters such as Michael Moore refuse to be interviewed on tape by CNN, FOX, et al, and insist on only live, unedited interviews.

The result is an uninformed, highly volatile and biased majority that is convinced of it's "rightness" because opposing argument is not being shown to them. Today, we have only yelling, screaming and personal invective in place of rational discussion in our mainstream media.

    • Fortunately, the left wing media balances things, eh?

    • The "Liberal Media" is a right-wing lie that's been broadcast so many times it now sounds like truth. Like Hitler's propagandist, Joseph Goebbels said, "“f you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it."
      .
His "wisdom" has not been lost on wing-nuts be they left or right hand threaded.
      .
There is a small but nascent Liberal Media and the Media Giants are now starting to lean more to the let because they realize the country is turning from right to center and they also are beginning to see that the right wing ideology was on a path to destroying the country, and their profits with it. But when the right held sway, big media went right along. Small, independent news ordinations are all but gone. Media is owned by masive corporate behemoths. They are in it for the money, and that's all they care about.

    • I have to admit that CNN has moved to the center this year. But NBC has stayed on the left and, with the popularity of Olbermann (sp.?), might even have moved further left. Rather was a lefty for years, going soft on Dems and hard on the GOP and the liberals never minded. Nobody seriously disputes that Fox leans (fairly hard) to the right. But the minute somebody says left wing media, the loony left screams lies, conspiracy and Nazis.
