If your parents paid for all of your education then perhaps you're justified. Perhaps you feel it's an unnecessary charity. By that logic then the tax money that's been spent on medical research to cure disease and free vaccinations may have been an unnecessary charity as well, yet there's no doubt it's been for the public good. That's just one example.
